I see a lot of posts about the Beer Scout but none of the Crown Lifter. These are essentially the same pattern right, aside from the shield and bail? These have been hanging around for a while and I'm quite interesting in picking one up. Anyone have one of these?

I have one in Antique Yellow Jigged Bone. My example is fairly lackluster in appearance (http://greateasterncutlery.net/blog...10/153116-Antique-Yellow-Jig-Bone-900x542.jpg) so it doesn't get carried as much as the similar Beer Scouts I have in Maroon Micarta and Golden Ale Jig Bone. I like the bail on the Beer Scout but it's easily removed if you don't like it.

Bottom line: the pattern is great. The 2016 run of Crown Lifters also included Ebony and OD Green Linen Micarta so if any of those appeal to you, I say go for it.

I might have to keep a look out for the Ebony, although I really like the yellow jigged bone I would prefer this pattern in wood.

Yes, the latest iteration is essentially a beer scout without the bail or shield. I believe they were released at about the same time. The beer scouts went quick, and the crown lifters are still around...
Great pics, better view of the cover material I love that spearpoint. I hope they do another run of those and the clips.

Probably my top GEC pattern, certainly my most carried. I got one of each handle material, but the bone is my EDC.

I favor the Latham variant, "Soda scout" with the scout shield and bail. Basically a Beer scout with a non-beer shield.

I too, eagerly await a run with clip blades and bails. (And the "scout" shield). If they had put the "scout" shield on this run of crown lifters, I suspect they would already be gone.

It has been explained to me before, but I can't seem to remember what the difference is between a "Crown Lifter" and a "Radio Jack".

I'm getting ready to bring mine out for all the Christmas and New Years parties starting this weekend. It's my "Party Knife." :D

I actually prefer the crescent nail nick to the longpull. The beerscout shield is, indeed, cool though. Wish we could get a "soda scout" with a shield that REALLY said "Soda Scout Knife." they'd sell like crazy, too.

Same knife, im pretty sure they save "Radio Jack" for the Campagna SFO.

A clip point crown lifter is my grail. A couple times there have been one on the exchange, I just wasn't fast enough. Until then, I have been patiently waiting to find one on the exchange. Oh man, a clip point beer scout...DROOOOL.

I think it's a beautiful knife with a quality amusing etch, it's also better than the BS.

Why?

No brass liners to start greening up&corroding. No bail, don't like them at all, they get in the way and often interfere with closing the knife. The crescent nick makes it easier to open than a longpull.

They were and I think still are, available at retail price and not some bloated feed the flipper cost ;)

For practical reasons I also prefer the nick, although the long pull really accentuates the straight lines on the sheepsfoot in a way that makes me drool.

I know! While it was the sheepsfoot that attracted me to this pattern, I just love the looks of GECs clip blades.

I'm with you for those same reasons. I love the steel liners and pins(or is it nickel silver?)
I also don't care for bails, especially when in a brief moment of negligence I close the blade on it
Also, the lack of shield just tops this off with an enjoyable working aesthetic, both elegant and simple enough for me to enjoy carrying it as a daily user.

the original with the clip blade and crown lifter is better to me. tho, i usually prefer my 15s single clip. Don't get care much for the new one, as an EO is an instant No for me.
