Clarification on the #15 pattern!
The #15 is a regular Jack pattern. It has straight sides that widen a bit at the bottom end.
This handle pattern has been used for over 150 years for Jacknives and Barlows. And GEC is following that tradition. They are releasing a "boy's" knife called the Huckleberry in honor of Huckleberry Finn and a "barlow" called the Sawyer, in honor of Tom Sawyer, Huck's good buddy!
Since they are made on the same handle pattern, they can be produced at the same time more or less, with a fair bit of efficiency!
The boy's knife, traditionally named as such is of course not just for kids!!!!
It is a nice-sized Jack that is very useful for adults including Codgers like me!! But I think it will make a good first knife for our various offspring. I can imagine a grandma and grand-daughter or a grandpa and grandson having matching knives!! How cool is that??
And of course, I anticipate the Barlow will do what Barlows do best. and that is make a person happy they have such a thing!!
