Hi guys,

I was gifting a pair of GEC 23s to a friend of mine. Both single blade linerlocks; one in jigged redtail bone with a bullet shield and the other in antique bone . The antique bone is relatively flat and uninteresting unfortunately.

I bought them ages ago and just forgot about them. Are these generally considered undesirable knives in the GEC community? Did I send my bro the bottom of the barrel. I didn't think they were the most desirable, but I also didn't think I was sending him the dregs of GEC stuff.

What do you guys think?

I don't believe there is such a thing as an "undesirable" GEC, unless it is a pattern you are not personally interested in ... but then there are plenty of other folk who are interested in that pattern, who would be overjoyed to give you "lots" money (as in more than the thing cost new) to take it off your hands.

Sell em both for a tidy profit and buy yourself and your buddy a Buck knife or a Grohmann's depending on your preferences.....😉

Because they are such a large pattern they have somewhat limited use as an everyday knife, but to collectors they would be treasure from heaven.
Sight unseen, I think they would be worth at least $200 each, and possibly a lot more, depending on their rarity and condition.

It sounds like you're a knife guy, but will you fall to the profit motive? Have a knice day.

It sounds like a really nice gift. 23s aren’t high u on my personal favorites because I cut myself badly with one due to a combination of negligence, strong pull, half stop and oiled up blade.

My favorite pattern. I’m in the outdoors nearly every moment that I’m not at work. Maybe hunting, fishing, woodcutting, fooling with cattle, or other farm chores. A large, sturdy, hardy knife for heavy duty chores. Maybe a bit much for carrying around every day if you’re more apt to open a letter as opposed to dressing a deer or skinning a coon or bear. I carry one daily and consider it a very desirable pattern for my needs. Your friend should be grateful for a very nice gift.

The 23 is one of GECs most useful large patterns, with or without the liner lock. A classic GEC pattern, usually with excellent strong action and fit and finish.

Here is my custom lignum vitae 23. It is more of a hunting or chorin’ knife than a “pocket knife”, about the size of a Buck 110.

Very pretty.....👍

Great pattern. The chatter isn’t much compared to some other patterns but they’re a very practical large knife that’s pretty, too.

The 23 is what took me down the GEC rabbit hole and is the pattern I collect. Too large for me to carry at the office but its size serves as an excellent canvas to show off the various cover patterns. It is certainly a top notch field and work knife and is perfect for any outdoors enthusiast but I rarely get outdoors so my EDC is something smaller, a 79.

My #23 linerlock in burnt carved stag bone.

Man I'd kill for a OD green canvas liner lock 23......Next to impossible to find and usually broke when they do appear 😥........
