GEC 26s - Let's see 'em

Ok, so I followed the thread on GEC 25s (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/967564-GEC-25s-Gots-em) for the longest time and could see no purpose for the WSLTs (Pertinux's term). Then I made the mistake of snagging one on the Exchange because the price was right. Oops, big mistake, I love these little tanks. Then I was at the Wilmington Knife Days and spotted a 26 in Primitive bone and being a sucker for single spring two bladers, it went home with me. It's been downhill from there. So I'm curious to see if anyone else shares my fondness for these little sunnies.

Beautiful collection there! I particularly like the last two with the corset shields, I had the chance to get my hands on a goldenrod jigged bone wharncliffe just like your own a year or two ago but passed on it to get a 25 I wanted. I regret not taking both now.

However; I have a Northfield cocobolo Little Carver bought and paid for but it is at my storage facility in the US and I haven't had the chance to handle it yet. It's my first 26. I have plenty of 25s (I'm a trifle obsessed) but only this one 26

How do you find that sunfish-esque spear main for a user? I note that all yours have good honest patina...

Thanks Paul, have to agree that the corset shields are really gorgeous on these. I find the broad spear blades on the 26 to be quite functional. Even though the blade is broad, the stock is thin enough to make them very nice slicers. The patina you see on these is largely from slicing fruit and veggies on a daily basis.

Don't own one, but I too have a thing for two blades on one spring...so you may have convinced me to keep an eye out for one.

The spear main on the 25 is my first choice so I might have to get a spear main 26 too :)

Here's mine. Very well built and sturdy! The stag on the pile side is a nice kind of thick and feels really nice in my meaty fingers.

2nd cut stag serial number 21, I wish Gec put some more thought into the blade combos in the 26's i.e. a pen paired with the wharncliffe would make more sense than the wharncliffe and micro coping blade

Pete

I agree, I usually like the combination of a straight edge with a bellied blade for a daily carry knife. Wharncliff/pen, or spear/coping. However, my one and only #26 is a nice little whittler.

Very nice stag on that one, quaboag!

Wow Pete, that 2nd cut stag is gorgeous! Absolutely agree with you on the blade mix. Would love to see the 26s with a wharnie main and pen secondary and spear main with coping secondary.

After seeing your work, I'm going to have to try some whittling with my goldenrod wharnie, r8shell!

Mine has now arrived and I've been playing with it today;

I agree with you both, one straight edge makes the other redundant when the knife is this size anyway, if I can get a spear version I might ask someone to perform a Dr Nick style swapiddydoo operation. Besides that its a great wee knife. That wharncliffe is a monster and springs are incredibly stiff, I got bitten for the first time in ages whilst messing with this'un. The coping blade is so hard to close, its almost painful to shut due to the pointy shoulder....

....but I really like it already :)

I haven't posted to this thread in awhile so, since my collection has grown a bit, I thought I'd do an update.

That's a fantastic group Ken, I think the frontier bone and the smooth banana peel are my favourites. I'm glad to see a clip point added too :)

I imagine, as a fan of the #25, that I would really like the #26. Hopefully GEC will do another run sometime soon. :D

Thanks Paul! Those are a couple of my favorites as well (along with the other 11) :D

Barrett, I think you will like the 26s. As with the 25s, it a whole lotta knife in a compact package!

I love stout pulls, odd patterns and I especially love wide handles. Thus, when I received my first 26 Saturday I was knocked off my feet. What a wonderful and weird little fatty! Super handy and just adorable.

And, it's a clip point!

Here's my Primitive Bone 26 Clip with bigger Sleeveboard for company.

The pull on this 26 is not for the feint of nail....:barf: It's intimidating shall we say...:D

The 26 is of course, just a 25 reversed, same useful broad handle. A Shadow in this pattern would be an interesting idea I feel.

Thanks, Will

Dr-Mabuse and Will - those primitive bones in clip have me drooling! I've only managed to score one clip so far but half the fun is in the hunt. And Dr., in the spirit of Pertinux dubbing the 25s WLST (Weird Little Stubby Things), we hereby dub the 26s WWLF (with all credit to Dr-Mabuse).
