GEC 3" - 1 Blade vs 2 Blade

I've had a #25 Jack with 2 blades. I was surprised at how good it felt in the hand for a 3" knife - I've had other 3" knives that just felt waaaaay too small to ever get comfortable with. I've since sold that knife to a fellow forum member, but there's something that's pulling me back and telling me that I NEED another GEC! :D

I think I'm going to order a single blade this time. The small secondary clip blade on my first one never got used because it was a bear to open, and the blade itself was just too small. This time I'm debating between a single blade #73 Scout, 3 3/4" closed; or a single blade in the 3" category - Jack, Barlow, or EZ Open.

I'm wondering if a single blade in the 3" category will feel too small. I'm fine with the blade length; it's the feel in hand that I'm concerned with. Like I said, the 2 blade 3" felt real good in hand, but since the 1 blade will be thinner, I don't know if that will make it seem too small or not. If it's gonna feel too small, then I'm going with the #73 Scout.

Help!!!

I don't think there is much of difference between the 1 and 2 blade G.E.C. #25s. There is a slight difference in width but the 1 blade still feels plenty big in hand for a 3'' knife.

Single blade No.25 feels a LOT better in the hand, slim yes but sinewy too.

I agree with the double blade 25 being a bit redundant, but I wouldn't part with my 2 blade Barlow Jack as it's got the BEST stag on it this side of Sheffield 1908!

The single blade 73 is also a first rate knife, big but no way unwieldy or bloated. The flat bolster 73 I have in a kind of Burnt Orange Herringbone jig is particularly liked. Does all you need without taking up weight&space. Get them all.....

2 is always better than 1 . . . except in wives! I even have a 3-blade Scout pattern that GEC made for Bulldog.

What about in the #73 Scout model?

Do you guys have opinions on the 1 vs. 2 blade configurations?

I am a one blade kind of guy. Never seen much use of having a secondary blade. I have had a few knives with two blades but always just end up using the one blade (my favorite of the two). Aesthetically I prefer a single blade as well

If you are considering the single blade #73 and the only reason for the single blade is that the pen blade is too hard to open, why not go with the 2 blade? A trapper Is only a trapper with 2 blades. The #73 2 blade "scout" is a great knife. I've bought 3 over the last 6 months.

I do not know why but the 2-blades feel much bigger in the hand than the single blader
If you like a rounder feel in your hand then the 2 blades is the way to go.

I am very happy with the single blade 3"

neeman, I just bought one of these tonight. I think I like your barehead and ringed bolster better than the end-capped, but I wanted the Wharnie.

I'll let you know if I agree with you on the feel of the single blade. I tend to like fatter knives.

We have a lot of rattlesnakes here in my area (high desert) and a lot of guys like a second blade (well sharpened) in case they get bit or someone with them gets bit and then they can use the second blade to make an incision over the snake bite.

Of course it's said that making an incision over a snakebite isn't the best thing to do, but when you're thirty or forty miles from medical help ya gotta do what you think is best.

I personally have a single blade #25 GEC Tidioute Wharncliffe and like it a lot. While it doesn't fill-the-hand it certainly is big enough to get most any job done.

My preference though is a 3½" barlow with 2-blades the main blade being a clip blade.

I had a single blade #73 with the flat bolsters that I thought very highly off. Great knife, slim and pocketable with plenty of handle to hold onto despite it being somewhat thin. The spring was strong but not nailbreaking strong.

I gave the #73 to my brother-in-law's brother last year in appreciation for helping me sell a pistol at a gun show for a very good price. He really like the knife as well.

my hands are old so i opt for the single blade 73. this knife is small enough for edc but stout enough to clean a deer. have you held the toothpick yet? i swear it's a sensual pleasure & will make a believer out of one. blackmamba that's a real pretty thanks for the pic.
