GEC 33 Conductor and that pesky bail....FOLLOW UP

OK....I know some like a bail on a knife and some do not.
I fall into the latter category. :thumbdn:
I bought a GEC conductor with a bail and want to remove it but it looks as if the bail pin is also the pin through the pen blade.
I don't want to mess with it without checking with those that have removed one.
Any advice other than leave it alone? :)

EDIT....4/13/14....I removed the bail and took a few (bad) pics. It won't get any awards but it's functional and smooth to the touch.

I had the same problem with a white owl. I filed off the top of the pin on each side and removed the bail loop with the pin in situ, then peened the pin.

You are brave and skilled men tackling that! But, you are right, the bail's an impediment. Here's my stainless Stag Bailess One with Böker Small Stockman

Interesting and brave indeed. The pin for the bail looks like it has some kid of sleeve around it. Is it nickel silver or steel?

It's a hollow brass pin. The bail was nickel silver and had a pin that ran through like a shackle, but peened on both ends. It was loose through the brass but had excess when I removed the ends, this allowed me to gently compress it and peen it flush to the bolsters. It's not a pretty job but I'm an amateur and I'm happy with the outcome.

I'd like to find a Northfield spear White Owl WITH a bail... :)

Glad you got it figured out bdev.

I just found about a dozen of them online (Northfield/spear/bail). email me and I'll send you the dealer info (there are at least three of them).
