I recently picked up my first Gec bullnose as mentioned in an earlier thread. It's a solid knife for sure. I discovered that they make the Hayn' helper #47 pattern with a sheepsfoot main blade and pen second. I'm really interested in this pattern as the sheepsfoot is my favorite blade shape. Just curious who has this paticular knife? And your thoughts would be appreciated.

Can't help you with the Hay n'Helper I'm afraid but I do hope to get one of the Bullnoses this time.

I am however, a fellow enthusiast for the Sheepfoot, such a versatile blade, and like to show off my recent Tidioute 15 Crown Lifter while you wait for a proper response to your question.:)

i got a #47 hayn' helper in od linen micarta -- it's great. having the secondary thickens the handle, making it fill the hand nicely. not everyone likes the feel of a swayback handle, but if you flip your bullnose around you can approximate the feel of a #47 and decide whether or not you find it comfortable. i absolutely love it.

I've got a 2 blade #47 in orange delrin and one in Nifebrite Acrylic. The Nifebrite one is approximately the thickness of a delrin/micarta single blade 47 or 71, albeit much heavier. It's a chunk of a knife either way. The pen is long enough to count as a full-sized blade - it's only a hair shorter than the blade(s) on a Case mini trapper (3.5" closed). I don't really carry either them, because as I said it's a hefty chunk of a knife. I do however very often carry my single blade Nifebrite #47, and for a good time carried an orange delrin one before passing it on to someone else. I always have my Cybertool 29 in my other pocket, so the pen blade on the #47 is redundant for me. The pen also has a very stiff pull. If a Victorinox Soldier/Pioneer is a 5, I'd say the pen on the #47 is an 8. Not impossible to open, but don't be surprised if you find yourself filing or trimming your thumbnail's broken off chips once in a while. I'd say the sheepsfoot blade is a solid 6-6.5 on the pull, but there's enough exposed (even on the 2 blade) that you can pinch it open rather than using your thumbnail.

I very much like the way GEC does their sheepsfoots (sheepsfeet?), at least on the #47. It's far from a wharncliffe, but it's got more of a tip than most other companies make their sheepsfoot blades. It's also ground very thinly to the edge, and combined with the O-1 tool steel, you basically have a utility knife that isn't one of those heavy Stanley ones or those flimsy retractable ones with the break-off pieces that scare the heck out of me because the dang pieces are designed to break off.

I have both the single blade and two blade in OD Green Micarta I really like both they are definitely EDC user knives. As you can tell by the pictures I have carried them often. The two blade is a little thick and I'm sure there are some folks that would feel it's a bit more hefty than they would like. I carry mine in my back pocket but IMO it's not to large to carry in the front. As far as weight it is a little heavier than what I normally carry but not so heavy as to keep me from carrying it. As far as length not much larger than the 77 Barlow that spends a lot of time riding in my pocket. Overall I think it's a great user knife that will perform very well for you.

Thanks for the info. I'm seriously considering ordering one why they are still available though not many places have them in stock.

Go for it Tpost they're good knives for not much money I think you'll be glad you did. I have 0 regrets with mine.

Love mine. It's a super solid work knife. Great for use with gloves on.
