Hi folks,
how are you? I'm back to BF after almost a week (you did miss me, didn't you?) and just found out something I had been curious about: the new GEC F&F #47 with sheepsfoot main blade, in both versions.

I have to say, it does look pretty interesting, especially the two bladed version.
I will go to the extent to say that I wish this pattern was made in their "regular" lines (Tidioute or 440C GEC).
So what do you think?

I think I would like to see one closed to see how much the blade sticks out above the handle. I would hope enough to easily pinch it out. I also think, for myself, I would take O1 over 440C any day, but I can appreciate you wanting 440C.

I like the single blade and think it would make a terrific toolbox knife.

I'd be all over that single blade version if....

A) It was available in the UK.
B) It was under 50 notes.

A guy can dream.

I ordered the single blade version in orange. I'll let you know once I receive it. It looks nice.

Kevin,
I have no experience whatsover with O1, so I can't really tell. I do know that I prefer GEC's 440C to GEC's 1095 myself.
Back to the knife...
I see the single bladed version as an alternative to the sodbuster style, and maybe I'd take this one over the Bullnose.
As for the two bladed version...I know I might be rambling away from the concept behind this knife, but I'd like to see some knifemaking company bring back the "New England whaler" pattern (correct me if I got the name wrong).

Yeah, I guess your dream of more 440C is kind of like my dream of Northfields with O1.

If I were to get one of the sheepsfoot bladed versions, I'd get the one with two blades. An extra blade in the wings can be a plus at times. As to the steel, 01 is just fine. I do not see where stainless would be an advantage and it would only drive the cost of the knife up.

Hey Fausto! So, ya been on holiday, or what? :D

I have a Victorinox Gardner which is very similar to the single blade offered here - it's on the workbench in my garage and gets used there and in the yard occasionally. It's a very functional, utilitarian knife - which is what it's intended to be. If I didn't already have that I'd probably be very interested in the two blade version by GEC.

Kevin,
I assume you mean something like fool's dream... :D
Anyway, maybe someday I will try GEC's O1. I know you like it alot, and I trust your opinion on it. Maybe this #47 will give me a good opportunity...
jwh,
I look forward to hearing your opinion...and seeing your pictures as well :)
Keith,
no, not on holiday...I was just far long enough to find out your "knife draught" is over :D
Ed,
as I said in my earlier post, there's no reason why GEC should change steel, or handle material, on this knife. They're sticking with the concept of this production line, which works perfectly for me. I was just considering this pattern (the two bladed version) in another context.
