I don’t know much about traditionals or the workings of GEC, but I’m interested in acquiring a #47 pruner/hayn helper. I’m a journeyman lineman and I like collecting hawkbills and this pattern caught my eye but I can only find 2 examples of this knife available and both are priced much higher than they originally sold for. I’d like to know if this pattern is likely to be made again and I should be patient or at what price is it reasonable to pay for this model. Thanks.

Reasonable price is highly subjective... it's also a topic we can't discuss with you. GEC has (or used to have) a listing of upcoming production on their site - check there.

Put a post in the want to buy subforum and see what happens.

Nobody who knows about "the workings of GEC" says much, a few pretend they do and a lot make up BS. Don't wait if you see the GEC pattern you want.

If you like pruners aka linoleum knives, there are a number of well made european or english made ones that'll be as good or better than GEC. My friend's a truck farmer and he has a lovely German one in stag.

Thank you. Which other makers would you recommend.

His membership is fine for a WTB ad. It won't affect the restriction on who sees it. (Only memberships that are allowed to sell can see those ads, regardless of who's posting them)

I don't remember the German maker, I think there is a thread here about pruners, try searching this subforum. In vintage pruners I've seen decent ones made by Schrade, Keen Cutter and Sabre (Japan). Sabre can be a little crude, but work. I pick up old cheap pruners when I can for my gardening friends and my farmer friend who keeps a few around for hired help (he's a bit crippled from West Nile and hires day workers). If you want a modern serrated hawkbill, I love the Spyderco Harpy/Merlin.

A. Wright and Sons makes a couple different sized pruners out of england. Otter makes them out of germany as well. I bought my mother one of the otter pruners and its a solid working knife.
