Hey guys! I'm just about to pull the trigger on a new GEC #54 harness jack with horsecut antique bone and a clip blade, and I just wanted to ask a question before I do. My main purpose for the big blade is food prep, daily and when camping/fishing or whatever and am just wandering if the blade is thin enough to do that, or if it is too thick for that use? thanks guys just wanted to know first.

I have a #54 Big Jack and use the clip for food prep. It zips right through fruits and veggies. Definitely not too thick for me.

I love the knife and am carrying it right now. Its certainly been a useful purchase. I disassembled a giant honeycrisp with it just an hour ago.

Yeah those whittlers are nice too, I just couldn't resist that harness jack, those two blades look like the perfect pair for edc.

the gecs have a full flat grind with a smaller bevel than most just behind the edge. however you will still need to sharpen it.

I have that exact Harness Jack in horsecut bone. Its a great all-around utility knife and will serve you nicely for just about every task. Personally I would get a GEC with another blade versus the leather punch for greater versatility. And like Dennis said, you'l probably need to sharpen the blade a little more.

The horsecut antique bone that GEC does really has an old timey look to it. Anyways, congratulations on a fine choice!

thanks guys! I had considered another version with a blade but wanted something a little different for my big purchase :D I wonder where the harness jack came from? or if it is just a randomly made pattern.

The Harness Jack is the one I keep in my pickup and it sees the most hard use. That's what I bought for and it does it well. To date, it is the only GEC that I have decided to buy.
