Hi folks,
and merry Christmas to everyone :)
I have not received my Christmas knife (a two bladed GEC #15 with ebony handles) so I can't post pictures of it, but soon I will have it in my hands and I know I will love it.
But...
Curiosity is something I can't really control (and, after all, why should I?), so today I casually found out about the upcoming GEC #55. Apart from a few pictures of the bolsters (which don't give many clues), there's little info on this.

It seems that it will be a single bladed knife (with different blade options), and based on the #56 frame (maybe reversed?).
So, since all the new GEC models seem to gather attention and cause speculations, what do you expect from this knife?

Well, I expect to like the thin profile of the single spring. The single blade should also keep the price lower than the #56. As I got a Half-Whit instead of a Geppette, I'll probably get a #55 iinstead of a #56. Some others might agree.

I would thoroughly enjoy a reverse of the 56 frame. Would that make it something like a larger version of one of my favorites, the Case peanut?

Doug,
I would surely like a slimmer, single blade version of the #56 but...I admit that the thought of a reverse frame it too appealing to let it go...so we can hope

Look at the second and third pictures posted by jazub here.

That is what I was thinking when I wondered about the reverse 56 frame. Not end-to-end reverse as in blades pivoting from the larger end of the frame, but top-to-bottom reverse to make the frame shape similar to the peanut.

Me too.
The end-to-end reverse would lead to the Geppetto/Halfwhit, which I don't particularly like.
I'm hoping for a sagittal reverse frame ("leg" swaying ahead instead of swaying back).
I'm afraid we'll have to wait though...

I like the look of the sheepcliff ;) , it is not quite as pointy as the forum knife.

I just fail to see why this needs a new frame #? Blade is in the same place as the #56, only difference I can see is the single blade? The #57 has been a whittler, a wrangler and now a single spring half whit and yet it keeps only one frame #. Maybe its a different size?

55 is a square tang,therefore it has a halfstop. 56 has a round tang,therefore no half stop.

Probably a good thing this is not turning out to be what I had hoped. Can't really afford the temptation right now!

I'm a sucker for wee single bladed knives. Might have to convert some pounds to dollars.

There is a thread on another forum ABOUT POCKET KNIVES that addresses this tang design. I got the info from the GEC Factory Rep.

Thanks for following up, really appreciated......all I need is another forum on knives  :D

I gotta bump this because I've been away from the forums and just found out about this design. The wharncliffe (I assume the same as is on our 2012 Forum knife) is awesome. I love the handle, but what really gets me going is the snapshot on the GEC website of this thing closed. Looks to be one of the most pocket-friendly designs out there...and I'm sick of wearing holes through my work khakis and slacks.

I don't believe the Wharncliffe Blade will be the same. Same blade pattern, different blade size. The Forum knife is 3 7/8 inches long closed, the 55 is 3 1/2 inches closed. Another very similar Pattern with a Wharncliffe Main Blade is the 57 HalfWhitt half whittler.
