Wow... The Bird's eye maple is gorgeous. The BF 2013 in micarta will be great too.

Yes, the Birds Eye Maple looks fantastic. Must.....resist.

I would think the tooling would be similar, but the BF knife will be a two spring arrangement with one being a wrap-around, vice the single spring of the easy pocket congress. A lot of details were kept within the framework of existing patterns to try and keep costs down. I believe enough extra details were added to make the forum knife unique.

Regardless, it is very similar... It will be a long wait for ours though. Well worth it if it looks as good as this one does!

Yes, the forum knife will have rattail bolsters.

That's great, Blaine. I know the 2012 knife was slated to have them as well but we got the standard Northfield 3-groove booster instead. This is going to be a beautiful knife! Thanks for the reply.

Well, we're supposed to have them, anyway. That's what was agreed upon in the spec list. I didn't know that about last year.

2013 Blade Forums Knife Specs.
Copied from the pre-order thread:

Pattern: two blade congress jack
Size: 3.5" - 4"

Blades: sheepsfoot primary behind pen secondary; half stops on both blades; main blade as long as possible but no longer than 3"

Blade steel: 1095 carbon

Blade finish: satin; cut swedge on primary blade, drawn swedge on secondary; no etch, no serial numbers

Bolster material: nickel silver

Blade tangs: must accommodate a Bladeforums tang stamp; if current stamp is too large, we would like a smaller one made; "2013" also stamped on tang

Bolster style: square, with rattail (one medium thick groove per bolster)

Cover material & color: thin-grained paper or linen micarta, whitish/ivory colored, curved some to bring out some layers in the micarta

Nail nicks: long pull on primary, standard nick on secondary; both on shield side, placed so blades do not interfere with nicks. Possibly a relief cut inside scale in front of secondary nick to help opening, if needed.

Shield: long, centered, and running parallel to long axis of knife; must be pinned

Springs: extended spring to close secondary blade channel

Hope that gives you a better idea of what's to come.... I hope it's what arrives... It's what I've paid for. 😉

What I meant to say... The quality and good looks of the #62 is indicative of what's awaiting us when and if the 2013 BF knife finally gets here. Yeah, it's a jack, yeah all of the above. I'm hoping that ours looks as good and even better, if that's possible.

The forum knife is going to be a new pattern.

Cool, I always assumed it would be the standard square bolstered #61 frame. I'm really getting excited :)

What, you didn't get one with rattail bolsters?

What I hoped to do too is maybe get a few more excited enough to order the 2013 BF knife so we could get the show on the road! We may get this one after Christmas if we hurry! (Sarcasm)

I'm sure it will look just as good. I haven't had a bladeforums knife yet, but judging by thoughts and pics of previous ones this one will be lush. And I agree, c'mon guys get your credit cards out!
