GEC #66 Jack Vs 2-Bladed #15 Boy's Knife

I'm thinking about picking up another 2-bladed jack, and I'm debating between a 2 bladed #15 boy's knife and a #66 calf roper jack. What do you guys think? I'm leaning a bit towards the calf roper, because I do have a few single bladed boy's knives, but I'm not set on it. Thanks for your input!

The 66 pattern in any variation is in my opinion one of GEC's best. I have all three variations & like them all. Love how the 66 slim disappears much like my single blade charlows while in my pocket. Blade choices on the calf roper are excellent & the serp jack/calf roper jack is also a great choice. If you already have some 15's then you should definitely give a 66 pattern a chance. The pull on the clip blade of the serp & calf roper jack is a little stiffer than the slim, stockman & 15 patterns. Not a nail breaker but I'd put mine at around a 7 & my slim & 15's at a 5.

Another one I like as much if not more than my 66 jacks is the 76 outlaw jack.

The 66 looks good but I personally prefer a serpentine pattern to come with three blades as I usually identify it as the stockman pattern. I'd suggest the 68 pony jack as potential rival to the 2 blade 15 frame. Something nice and minimal about the equal end 3.5 inch pattern. Keeping an eye on the 68 buckaroo myself. Then again if you wanted something like the 15 but larger there's the 78 American jack. All good choices so can't really go wrong.

A change is as good as a holiday.:)

Very true. How about a case texas jack instead and stay away from GEC this time around? If you simply can't, I'd go for something other than the 15, whatever it may be.

Hard choice, these are two of my GEC favourites, but I'd say give the 66 a try

I like the 66, it's just a little too small for my hand. I'm a big 15 fan, they just feel "right":)

I own both patterns, although my #15 is a Charlow rather than a boy's knife. My #66 calf roper is a 2-blade serp jack with a clip and pen. I really like both knives. The #66 is very slightly thinner than the Charlow. Don't know if that's still true of the boy's knife.

Either way, you can't go wrong with either.

Both are great choices, but if you already have a 15, you really ought to try the 66 jack. I personally like the 66 slim, but the jack is every bit as good. I'm really looking hard at the 3 bladed Buckaroo right now. The 66 is just an overall great pattern. Good luck with whichever you choose.

I own many variations of both, and although I love the #15, I prefer the 66 for EDC. My reason is that the barehead 15s flare out at the bare end, widening the knife just enough to notice in my pocket carry. The 66 is sleeker while still providing all the blade I need. The 66 Slim gets my vote over everything. I've carried nothing else since the day mine arrived.

I have the Charlow and the Boys knife with Cap Lifter. Both are excellent. I bought the BK second since I had a chance to get the cap lifter model and had been looking for it for a while. Don't forget the #55 Houndstooth. I found a nice one with a Wharnecliff balde and genuine stag. I carry this one alot. As a matter of fact, it's in my pocket today.

Big fan of the #66 pattern. Love the #15 also. The #66 is just a classic. Fits so well in the hand, and subtle in the pocket. Here is a shot of my #66's (including my new purple sage received last night) and two #15's. Either way you win, but I'd give the #66 a shot.

Well, the GEC #66 is my all-time-fave :D

... the regular and long time members here know what I mean ;)

The #15 is a great pattern in every way. But I like the #66 as my most carried knife in general

You couldn't go wrong with either knife, but if you don't have a 66 jack, you are really missing out on a great knife. Given what you've said, I'd recommend the 66 jack.

That's a toughie. I was in the same position just yesterday and had been looking at both for a while. I finally went with the #15. I think the fact that it has a barehead was the factor that won me over. I also have a #15 Radio Jack and really like the size and frame. Plus I always like a half stop.

66. When in doubt, do with the more pocket-friendly rounded bolsters.
