As I continue to learn about the GEC extensive lineup, I find myself drawn to the Moose knives. In all honesty I've never owned a Moose, but I have given it thought numerous times, in the past...
In the past, I have thought of the 6275 Case, but after looking at the GEC knives, I really like them better. Besides, how cool is it that Bullwinkle is on the blade ?:D Plus, I think the rounded bolsters of the GEC knives really make the knife look better.

I don't feel like doing a bunch of searching, so if you have any input, positive or negative, feel free to share. And as always, pictures are great...

The Bullwinkle moose is on the #66 frame (3½") which is much smaller than the 6275 Case at 4¼ inches closed.
The #53 Cuban moose has round bolsters and is 4⅛" long. This one in Brimstone bone.

Although this is a beautiful knife, if I carry a #53 pattern it is usually the Cuban stockman.
I'm not a big fan of two blades with the same belly profile; they're just a little less useful.

That is a beauty Jeff. The Brimstone scales are incredible looking...
I really prefer my knives at 3 1/2 - 3 7/8 inches closed. That was one of the things I like about the 66 pattern. The Case 75 pattern Moose is bigger than I like, and I think that is the biggest reason I always drug my feet about getting one.
I've had a few 6375's, and they rarely got carried. They do have a very substantial feel to them though :D

I agree about having two blades that are identical or very similar. That's why I never got real excited about the Muskrats... The 66 I was looking at has a clip, and a long spey blade. I can live with that.

Hey Rock! Watch me pull a rabbit outta my hat.

LOL.... Very nice. I really like the red scales. Every time I see the Moose, it makes me smile. It really doesn't take a lot to amuse me :D

Nor I.
the dark cherry bone is only part of the appeal.
I'd like to see what they'd come up with if tasked with creating say a Foghorn Leghorn or Yosemite Sam.

LOL... Now your thinkin :D That's a cool idea actually. You should run that by them, and see what they think. It would be a great excuse to come up with two completely new patterns. Tell em you will let them use your idea, in exchange for 50 new knives of your choice :D

Very timely thread for me. I've been itching for a couple of Moose Pattern Knives. Been reading about ole Nessmuk and have got the itch for a big one and probably a Bullwinkle J. Moose knife.

To be honest, most of the Case models have a spey..... well, it just doesn't look right on the pattern. It needs a spear and a clip.

I'm a fan of the pattern. Its got two very useful blade shapes that appeal to me, however I've not carried one at all, though it's right in the sweet spot of the size knives I like to carry. I actually think I prefer the muskrat clips of the 66 mink skinner better. Better still, IMO is the 81 moose pattern with its single backspring.

Here's a 66 on top and the big 54 on bottom.

This pattern was an SFO, a very small run - less than 20 as I recall. Bill made this "angled" Peachseed bone for me as an early experiment. When I suggested the Bullwinkle etch (in a childish moment) he fell out of his chair laughing! I heard the thump!!
But we used it for our respective Mooses (Meese?), to mixed reviews - as usual!!

Bill made the red version that Meako has, and some others I believe. But he kept my jigging exclusive for my version.

Gotta have the Moose :D 52 years old, and I'm still a kid at heart...
I agree about the Case. I could live with it, but when I look at them with the blades open, it always looked to me like a 54 pattern Trapper, that got put together wrong lol.
I started a thread a week or so ago, sharing my dislike for Spear Point blades, but realize after some input from others that, it is just some of the big Spear Points that I couldn't warm up to.

Very nice. The 81 is a nice looking pattern too...

Very cool Charlie. I didn't know it was you that was behind the Moose :D  I think it was a great idea...
That's a beauty for sure. More of their nicely done red bone, and excellent jigging. What are your thoughts on the pinched bolsters ?

Very nice...

I like both, but need a 54.

Ideas such as this flow from head in great quantity-its just ideas-
I Am A River To My People!
ok ok I Am A Hydro Electric Power Plant Feeder Channel to my people!

alright. I'm a Long Unused Broken Sceptic Tank.... to my people.
Interestingly the character of Bugs Bunny was supposedly based on a NY docker/longshoreman/wharfie-(a guy who unloads the ships) what sort of blades were particular to these guys back in the day-just out of interest?

I seem to have one of these Moose SFOs ... bought it from a BF trad guy. At the time, he mentioned it was a "special" run. I didn't really pay attention because I intended to use it as an EDC - and I did for about 4 months. I retired it when I put a small scratch in the tip of the spear. I just really enjoyed the Moose etch. I was able to acquire a NF Calf Roper with same jigging and color - it has the large "UN-X-LD" shield where the SFO used a smaller shield. Can't download pictures this morning - my computer is acting very glitchy!
