Hello:

I'm assembling a small collection of folders and just purchased a Great Eastern Cutlery, Tidioute Cody Scout (#72 pattern). In doing further research, I found what looks like an identical knife in the same pattern, but called the Mini Folding Hunter. Are they essentially the same or are there subtle differences between the two that I'm missing? I must say; acquiring these traditional folders affirms my belief that most of mankind's basic problems were solved a hundred years ago. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I believe the mini-hunter #72s are lockback, while the Cody Scout models are slipjoints.

The 72 is the Mini Folding Hunter. I'm not sure if that answers your question. The link below might help:

From the link you sent, the link below shows the knife I purchased. As with the Mini Folding Hunter, it too is a lock back with what appears to be an identical blade, but it's under the Cody Scout category. I did notice that the issue dates for the Hunter tend to be much earlier than the Cody Scouts. Could that be the difference? Thank you for the replies.

I would put this down to GECs idiosyncracies. They do not seem too bothered with naming conventions or indeed sticking to any particular conventions too closely.

I'm leaning in favor of this theory. It seems to me that the basic #72 pattern received a name change from Mini Folding Hunter to Cody Scout, around 2012/2013. Thank you all.

The 72 frames are the same. When it's a lockback, it's a Mini Folding Hunter or Cody Scout Lockback. Cody Scout Jack when it's a 2-blade slip joint. But, yes indeed, GEC colors outside of their own lines at times.
