Just how much bigger is a GEC 73 than a Case Mini Trapper? I can't get a good idea of the size of the GEC's from their website. I have a Mini Trapper, Medium Stockman, Small Texas Jack, Sodbuster, Peanut from Case but I don't recall seeing a picture of a GEC with other knives for scale. I've seen a 25 vs. a Peanut, but I'm looking for a 73. Anybody got a picture?

I don't have a Case Mini Trapper(3 1/2" closed) but, here's my GEC #73 with a few Case knives that are 3 1/2" - 3 3/4" closed length.

From the top in all pictures:

CASE - Doctor's knife - Antique Jigged Bone - SS - Closed: 3 3/4"

CASE - Small Saddlehorn - Russell Jigged Antique Bone - SS - Closed: 3 1/2"

GEC - #73 Scout - Grizzly Cut Bone - 1095 - Closed: 3 3/4"

CASE - Small Texas Jack - Amber Jigged Bone(at first) - CV - Closed: 3 5/8" This knife started out as an amber bone knife, but I made it "antique green" with some Fiebing's leather dye. Just not crazy about the plastic look of the amber bone.

Hope this helps.

The #73 is a bit longer, and quite a bit chunkier than the Case mini trapper. The blades on the GEC have a good deal more belly, and are thicker than the long, skinny blades on the Case. They are very different knives, IMO. (Both are nice, however!) I greatly prefer Case's mini trapper over their regular trapper- it's a much better pattern for me.

The Case is more of a "gentleman's folder", and will fit in most watch pockets. The GEC is stouter, heavier, and more of a hard-working knife- although it is made with tighter tolerances and is better finished in most cases.

Agreed! I like the way the color of the Texas Jack came out. Very nice!
The "antique green" was a combination of Fiebing's Cordovan and Dark brown dyes applied to different areas. I warmed the knife up in a mug of almost boiling water. This allows the bone to absorb the dye. After drying with a paper towel, I applied the dye with a Q-tip. Much to my surprise the Cordovan(red-brown) and Dark Brown looked brown when applied, but turned olive green when wiped away quickly.

Now......back to the GEC #73 size comparison.

Are the case mini trappers around 3 1/2 inches closed? I've got a queen city mini trapper and should be getting my 73 back in a couple of days. If no one posts a pic by then I can probably get one in.
The 73 is substantially bigger. That queen is super slim with majorly thin blades.
