I really love the look and qualities of Case's As Ground blades. Does GEC/Northwoods sell any knives with this type of finish on the blade? I would love a Tidioute #66 Calf Roper with this!!! Oh my! ;)

I don't think they do. Only polished or satin which are both a little different than Case's As Ground.

Yes, that's the way I understand it but it seems like some deburring or something similar would have to be done after grinding. I think maybe some of the Northwoods knives come close. The Freemont Jack for example. Those blades look very similar to As Ground but I've never handled one before.

thanks for the info, Railsplitter!

I would think as "as ground" finish would increase the chance of corrosion, so it might not be used by GEC due to their common use of carbon steel blades. Just a guess on my part, I like the look of the finish!

I think you are right on. That rough finish would rust while you looked at it...

As ground finish on stainless would be cool. And the collectors here would gobble them up, no doubt.

I wonder if it's feasible to put a similar finish on a blade with sand paper?

I don't think GEC needs to be more like Case?

Not what i was saying at all! However, Case has some pretty nice products at the moment, not GEC by any means, but nice all the same. I just like the look of the as ground blades and love GEC products.

So after reading some posts from this thread I get the feeling Case's as ground blades are all stainless? I just researched the Carhartt model and it is Tru Sharp. Hmmmm.

Case's "As ground" blades are nice. Especially if you don't like the look of highly polished stainless steel.

Case has some VERY nice products now, and always have. My point is that Case does what they do, and GEC does what they do, and it's all good. Viva La Difference.

The CASE as ground looks very good on working patterns, I've got a brown Delrin Slimline Trapper that looks excellent in it, no fingerprint hell to bother you.

Most Tidioutes and some Northfield (38 Whittler) have a matte finish which is also handsome and acquires an even patina more than polished -in my experience.

I am not a fan of highly polished anything!

I am mostly into the Tidioute line for that reason. I like some Northfield knives but usually do not gravitate towards the shinier things in life. I may just have to settle for a Case as ground Carhartt and swap the ugly shield. Hahahaha.

IMHO (!!!!) Case is doing the things they do - and they do it well.
I think there is no need for "As Ground Blades" made by GEC. But that´s just me...

I've never liked the look of polished blades. I wouldn't object to GEC putting out some working knives that aren't polished.

I have a Case Medium Jack with the As Ground blade finish and I like it much better than their polished stainless blades. A similar finish on some of GECs patterns might really look good. Would be dependent on the pattern and the scale material used in my opinion.

This thread needs a pic or two :)
