Hi guys,

I've been browsing this part of the forum for quite some time now and am particularly impressed with the Great Eastern Cutlery knives.
Does anyone know if there is a dealer in Europe that carries them? My last couple of purchases in the States have been plagued by high custom charges and if possible I try to avoid it.

Strange how this brand seems to be largely unknown in Europe...
Case, Camillus, Queen, Boker and soforth are readily available there. Is GEC a relatively new brand?

Otherwise I'll just have to order in the states....(funny how a $50 customscharge seems relatively little when you buy a Sebenza but a whole lot when you'd like a traditional pocket knife:o)

I live in Europe as well, send me an e-mail and I can recommend a very reliable US dealer. I've had no problems with having them sent at all.

ssusantigoon i'm sorry you are stuck with the custom charges. gec is a relative new co. with a fairly low profile but fantastic quality. aiming for the collector market these knives are not just pretty toys. the heavy construction & top materials used with great finish & construction, put them in a class by themselves. i.m.h.o. these are the best factory knives being made in the world.certainly if i was going hunting in alaska or africa these folders would be taken along with my best sheath knives. i only became aware of them in 2009 but have tested them in cardboard, hunting, & ranch cutting situations.quite simply these products have mostly eclisped most of my interest in other factory production.of course these knives are,nt inexpensive, but few quality products are.even the offerings in 3.75 in. are capable of handling all tasks, in fact the jacks in 3.75 can handle almost any cutting situation encountered. examination of gec by 2 expert friends of mine led to their amazement of the quality. these persons have thousands of knives in their collections & could'nt beleive the quality.i coud'nt recommend a better knife for purchase.

Great Eastern does not have any European distributors at this time. Thus, unless you find one willing to take the chance and "fudge" the customs forms I am afraid you are out of luck. There are several good distributors that will ship to you, but I see that is not really your question.

Also, using any inexpensive shipping method ( less than USPS Express ) leads to a significant amount of loss in Europe. Thus shipping is not cheap. Maybe when you get a few that you would like it could average the cost down somewhat.

Good Luck in finding a solution.

Well, you have to remember that German customs taxes can be very high, and then add in shipping costs. The company has a right to make a profit, and they have to mark their items up a certain amount just to break even.

Unless you want to become an importer yourself, at least you should be glad that you can buy the knives that are available.

Actually, wolfster is a pretty good store to shop. I've bought several items from them already. And yes, it is good to see that some newer brands get attention in Europe aswell.
However I still think the difference in price is a bit steep, but maybe we're paying for the novelty of being the first to offer them aswell...

There's been a few topics on GEC on britishblades.com and bushcraftuk.com. They might have some sources.

Your only other option is to have someone you trust in the US who can take delivery here and then ship it to you. You would have to work out all of the import fees and taxes on your end.
