Kinda have a dumb question here. Does GEC match the backspring steel to the blade steel, like stainless spring for stainless blades and the same for carbon? I'm thinking about picking up a #73 trapper, but stainless springs on carbon bladed models always looks weird to me.

I haven't had my #73 long enough to develop a patina, but the color looks like carbon rather than stainless.

I just hit the backspring with a dab of cold blue to test it, and it is definitely carbon.

Funny, I was just wondering that myself, while looking at one of the other GEC threads.. Was thinking how nice one would look with blued blades, but that it would be odd with Shiny springs.

Thanks! lambertiana :)

I was wondering the same thing last week and Tom at August Moon Cutlery confirmed that the 1095 blades have 1095 springs.

Actually, I LIKE stainless backsprings...less worry about rust and muck getting in there!

No.73 Liner Lock has carbon springs and blade, patina is coming along well but I still prefer stainless backers, good contrast!
