closer handle look
the three sunfish have the 2010 steel in middle flanked by 2009 models with n.s. bolsters. the pioneer is a locker with the largest example of primitive bone yet. i believe gec is only company with this handle material.--dennis

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the intended purpose of the sunfish/elephant toenail pattern? I don't really see the appeal of these either, but that's just my personal taste. I see these, and all I can think of is "why?"

I seem to recall I read somewhere that the pattern was intended for heavy rope cutting use? I have to check ...

I too believe they were rope cutters for sailors of tall ships. Broad handle, broad blade, relatively slim in pocket.

I carry a GEC Northfield Stag Sunfish all the time. It serves its intended purpose, just like any knife, as it cuts everything I use it for.

My only desire is that GEC produce one with a sheepsfoot secondary blade.
