My saddle trapper wharncliff sits just a little higher than I'd like. The tip catches just barely if touched just right.

I've filled the kicked on my case before with no problems. Can I do the same without any ill effects on this one? The back spring won't sit deep? I only need a tiny amount. I'll be happy with fraction here as it isn't protruding. It's about flush.

Thanks yall.

If it's already nearly flush, it shouldn't take but a hair of filing on the kick to fix that. I think you answered your own question, in "I only need a tiny amount." Go about it very, very gradually (one or two filing strokes at a time), and check the drop of the blade tip frequently as you go. As little as it likely needs, I wouldn't worry about the edge contacting the backspring (but WATCH IT anyway ;)).

Another option would be to file or grind a tiny bit from the spine of the blade where it meets the tip, which would lower the point of the tip just a tiny bit. BUT, I wouldn't likely do that in this case, as filing the kick just a hair should fix it.

3rd option: send it back to GEC. They'd likely file the kick to fix it anyway.

You should be fine. I have a #83 clip point that just caught the tip of my finger every now and then, and I filed the kick down to where I wanted it, and it worked out fine:)

Thanks yall. I'll do that.

Obsessed, I'm not worried aout the edge contacting the spring, I'm only worried about if the back spring will fall below being flush with liners on the spine. It's a long way off the spring inside lol.

As little as you'll likely need to take from the kick, I wouldn't worry too much about the spring dropping discernably, if at all. But, it's still good to take it slow and watch as you file it, just to get a feel for what it'll do.

gently, and cover up. ive had to modify a few of my schatt and morgans, and if the metal shavings get in the pivot you are gonna have a bad time

I taped it up well.

Done deal. Didn't hardly take much at all. Backspring still flush, and now it doesn't bite me anymore even trying to a little.

Thanks for the advice all.

I've done a few with no ill effects. Shoot, I hate to admit it, but I've used a belt sander (which I would not recomend).

Haha. Funny you say that. I had a case sowbelly that the sheep sat very proud. Felt uncomfortable in pocket at times. So I "filed" it's kick down so it sat with the nick just above the main blade. With a bench grinder. Lol. No I'll effects on it either.

I didn't think it would be a problem but I just wanted some input since this knife was a little harder to get and a bit more money than the other.
