so i ordered a GEC bullnose after falling in love with my GEC bullbuster #21 black derlin. so with my #71 i got it in nifebrite acrylic since they were out of maroon micarta. my fear is that ive heard that the nifebrite is prone to cracks and doesnt look as pleasing as they make it look in the pictures. if anyone with a gec that has nifebrite acrylic tell me if this is true or not? i would also like to see pictures of it glowing in the dark if possible! there really isnt anything on nifebrite when i looked it up. thank you!

They're just fine. There must be 4 or 5 threads on this in the first few pages of this forum. Type "nifebrite" in the search box and see what comes up.

I've never heard anything about acrylic handles of any type cracking.

If you go on YouTube and try to find it you'll see two videos and in one of them the guy said how his nifebrite handle had a small crack in it (when he first got it, not after he used it)

That's a far cry from "is prone to cracks and doesnt look as pleasing as they make it look in the pictures"

I read all the posts in this forum. Lots of folks here have knifebrite handles. There have been no reports of cracks. "I heard someone say." doesn't really carry much weight compared to the word of a dealer who has handled many knives.

guys...im just asking the community. im not trying to give anyone any bad rep im just making sure the purchase i made will hold up..

I believe I've seen this video as well. I think I remember he said it came like that, not that he damaged it. I believe that is correct, I'd have to look it up again to be sure though.

I looked on Youtube, couldn't find anything about any Nifebrite Acrylic with a cracked handle. By the way Ed, that's a nice example you have there! Keep that one in the pocket, don't leave it on the roof! :D

You have nothing nothing to worry about. Many people in the community here have the knifebrite and sunbrite knives along with a multitude of other acrylic handle knives. If they were that prone to cracking, there'd be a million posts about it and GEC would stop making knives with acrylic material. It wouldn't make sense for them to continue using a material if it wouldn't hold up under normal and intended use.

Get the knife, use it, don't intentionally abuse it and I'll bet it will outlast you.

I was pleasantly surprised by my Nifebrite #71. I ordered it out of curiosity, not sure what it would really look like in person. It exceeded my expectations 100%. To be honest, I don't really care about the glow-in-the-dark aspect, but on it's own in the light, I think the Nifebrite looks incredible on this knife.

I don't have any pics of mine on it's own, but here it is with the other #71s I picked up from this year's run:

I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed. Enjoy the knife!

Great looking #71. I like the pale green color of the nifebrite handles. The glow in the dark aspect may not be the reason you bought it but you may find it as a fun side effect of owning the knife. I like that it glows where ever I put it with only a little bit of light. My only complaint is that its very smooth and slick on a work knife (what acrylic isn't though?) so I take a little sandpaper and rough up the handles a bit. Here's my group of glow in the dark GECs. I've used the #15 up top and the #47s but I wouldn't mind a nifebrite #33 and #48 Jack.

so my bullnose arrived and i must say, that i am disappointed... the fit and finish is good but not up to gec standard as there is quite a few frills and bumps through my handle. i have a gec bullbuster #21 to compare to my bulllnose and the #21's finish is absolutely fantastic with little to no problems with it. on top of this the knife itself just doesn't feel as sturdy as everyone says it is. in fact when opening it, it sounded like a cheap china made knife even after some oil. I am not going to give gec a lot of crap and I am just going to assume i got a bad one out of the batch. i just hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. p.s i tried taking pictures but my camera is pretty bad and you couldn't eally see anything so i didn't bother uploading them

If you need a place to send it, you know, I am a pretty helpful guy...

Sorry to hear you're disappointed. I have one 71 and absolutely love it. Mine (micarta) definitely has a very strong "feel" to it, as any Sodbuster should. I don't fully understand what you mean by "sounded like a cheap china made knife even after some oil" but if you have a 21 to compare it to then I respect what you're saying.

If you could try to get some pictures up, that would be really great for those of us following this thread. If it's possible to take them in daylight it usually works out pretty good no matter what camera you have.
