ok this is going to get more fun but here it is for now. GEC challenge #1.

The infamous, the renowned, the legendary and famously idiosyncratic Camillus #716 double lok-back trapper.

Can GEC ever make such an iconic knife? Or will there be a generation of knife afficionados who will regret never having had one of these iconic patterns centre stage in their collection?

Who is in? Who wants - a genuine production version of the knife commonly referred to as the lok-back on steroids? A knife sometimes described as:

WILDLY COLLECTIBLE

&

HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER

BY COLLECTORS WORLDWIDE

GREAT

"EDC"

HUNTERS & TRAPPERS

COLLECTORS

&

OUTDOORSMEN PREFER THIS KNIFE SET

~ VERY VERY HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE ~

The knife no-one in their right mind would ever carry due to its obscene proportions and grossly unnecessary dual rear locking hardware?

The knife famous for having a locking mechanism so much tighter than any other that it really really hurts to use it?

The knife that has been simply described as Soul. Tradition. Style. Class.

The knife that could get you arrested on sight -even when deep in the woods gutting a moose or an elephant - due to the completely unnecessary proportions of this supposed 'hunting' knife?

Or is this pattern to be forgotten forever, except to those who love to carry unnecessary knives, tote massive guns and drive big pickup trucks?

Cool pattern, but no more lockbacks from GEC for me, definitely not a double. At least not unless and until they sort out their issues with singles.

Definitely a fun idea to issue "challenges" to GEC though. In for that.

LOL. I had one of those Camillus Lok-Backs for a while. I finally had to part with it, because my pants wouldn't stay up when I wore it. The thing was massive and heavy and awesome, but maybe something for the glove box instead of the belt. I thought about getting another at some point, but the auction prices for them are crazy, especially since I'd never actually use it.

I'd like it with a clip/wharnie setup, but if we're giving them a challenge, I'd rather see a Lockback Whittler;)

I'm in just for more of that verbiage. But, if GEC made it in 440C, I'd probably carry the knife in the woods ;)

GEC made a double locking trapper in the early days, it was a CollectorKnives SFO, but I think it was a double liner lock. Mike, where are you???

I'll never be able to afford the original Camillus or a GEC version, but, if I had one, I would carry it ... It's not that much heavier than a Buck 110 or Old Timer 7OT, ... or maybe a lock and loaded 1911 A1 ... is it? :)

Edit
If this is a GAW, I'm in. :)

In, if only because this double-lock hunter deserves a companion piece. Won in a GAW here, this Camillus has a place of pride on my shelf. Thicker and longer than a Buck 110, and feels a little heavier. I’d like to put them on a scale.

I don’t hunt, but that skinner blade or whatever it is looks like an easy Wharncliffe conversion for someone with the skills.

Love it! Wish I had it if only for the unique nature of it. I've never been all that fond of pocket bricks, but after receiving another heavy load just last night to add to my collection, at this point I figure, "Hell, what's one more". lol

I’m pretty sure you can still get something similar from Moore Maker. It may be the same knife made by camillus, not sure. They have a couple double lock backs. I don’t remember them being too expensive.

They were originally made by Camillus, after their demise the tooling was bought/used by Bear.
