GEC Compared To Northwoods

Once again I'm after feedback. If I understand correctly the Northwoods knives are made by various companies (GEC being one of those companies). How does one know what company makes any given pattern for Northwoods? Would a Northwoods branded knife, made by GEC, be of the same high quality and standards as a GEC knife? This site is such a wealth of knowledge and I really appreciate that. By the way I just ordered my first 2 GEC knives.

If you contact the seller of the northwoods knife, they should
be able to tell you who made it.
From what I understand, the high-performance steels are made
by Queen, ie cpm154.
Northwoods by Gec are top notch.

However, after following your other thread, all I can think is...
which 2 gec knives did you order???

I ordered the last 2014 BF knife and a bullet end jack in brown jigged bone. I have decided to jump start this new passion of mine and am also about to order a antique yellow bone farm boy, a rust red bone huckleberry boys knife, a purple sage bone calf roper, and a goldenrod bone talon spear.

As a general input, the NW knives made in the last few years are usually GEC made if they're 1095, and Queen made if they're D2 or CPM-154....yet the best way to know would be to contact Derrick here (or KSF through their website). He owns the name Northwoods so he knows who makes his knives :p

Everyone is right on. I am running about 900 mph right now, or I would say more. :)

Sounds like you've got it covered! I really like the 15, you will
be pleased with any on your list I believe. Thanks for
breaking the suspense! Oh, I really like my 85 too....

I own three of the GEC built Northwoods, 1095 steel and they are all great knives! Burnside, Fremont and Forest Jacks. The walk and talk is amazing on all and the F&F is spot on. Blade centering is perfect with strong springs and pulls around 7 or 8. All of these were first runs, I do know that Queen does some of them too but not sure which patterns.

From what I can tell all of the Northwoods listed as "vintage" on KSF are Queen or others...all the modern stuff (post-Derrick new stock) is GEC.

I believe the current Indian River knives are Queen as well. Steven
