Shifted a congress or two a while back and have always rather regretted it

I have liked several of the #61s and #62s ... liked them lots in fact

But I keep seeing reference to the softer springs GEC used ... which could be a big put-off

Can anyone offer an opinion on how soft they actually are?

If a Victorinox is a 5 :)

Thanks a lot for any help

GEC softer is like 5. I have a 61 and a 62. Both are similar to my SAK Pioneer. I'd say both the GEC's are a hair stronger on the pull, but still at 5.

Thanks for the views :)

Anyone ever handle a Hen and Rooster for comparison?

Yeah I have a stag one,

it's quite nice. I'd say a pull of about a 5 but my GEC 61 half congress is about a 6 for the main and 7 for the pen

Appreciate the info here. Been looking at a half congress myself and was curious about the "softer" springs. A pull of 5 is fine by me.

If I could only keep one of my collection, I would pick this one.

I love it.

I was looking at the exact same one. Same color covers even! May I trouble you for the length of the sheepsfoot blade? It looks a bit short in all the dealer pics I've seen. Thanks!

On my 62 patterns, the pulls are pretty consistent. The two Courthouse Whittlers have pulls of about a 5 on the main, and a 3 or 4 on the secondaries. The Maverick has about the same 5 on the main, and 4 on secondaries.

My Half-Congress is the only exception, with a solid 7 on both the main and the secondary. It's one of the few instances where I wish it were a bit lighter, but to be fair it would likely lighten up a bit if I were to put it to use.

There are others I've owned and passed on, but in my experience the ones I've kept are pretty typical representatives of the pattern.

I have a fair number of Congress patterns including GEC, Case, and the older Fighting Rooster. The two that spend most of their time in my pockets now are a Camillus traditional (4 blades) and last years GEC Congress Jack. The pulls on these two are fairly close. I'm not about to guess numbers, but they're not too difficult and they're not loose. I think a 3 5/8" congress pattern is just about perfect for a pocket knife.

I've found the 4-blade GEC congress models to have mild pulls. The 2-blade ones a bit firmer, but quite manageable.
