Hey guys, I’m currently disassembling a Great Eastern Cutlery knife and am wondering how the pivot is done on these. I know some knives have a small countersink or reamed hole where the peened pin can be seated, but this hole appears straight. Could it be tapered?

If anyone else has reassembled a knife from this maker I’d appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

I'm not sure how GEC does them. I would personally ream the holes to 3/32 and use those size pins for reassembly. Get yourself a dremel 125 bit and chuck it up in a pin vise and ream a little chamfer in the holes for the pin to swell to. No more than .004 or your asking too much from the pin. GEC doesn't leave their tangs as hard as the blade so you can easily use HSS to ream the holes btw.

Just the advice I was looking for. I’m glad you also mentioned the depth of the chamfer, very helpful. Thanks!
