GEC Cotton sampler...

The Cotton sampler is one pattern I never really got enthused about. I just couldn't see a great need for the blade style for an edc, and I don't have any cotton to sample :D

So, the last few days I have had a lot of free time on my hands, and have been making a list of new GEC knives I would like to have, and trying to increase my GEC knowledge base...
I was on a dealers website, and for some weird reason I clicked on the Cotton samplers, and it hit me.

As I looked at the picture with the blade open, it popped into my head. This pattern could be a great folder for deer, and even Elk hunting.
Sure it is a little small, and folders aren't always the best for working on critters because of the cleanup, but the blade shape would work really well for skinning.
It may just be small enough to work as a decent caping knife too...

While I still don't know how I would like one for an edc knife, the more I looked at them, the more I really began to like the blade design on these knives.
Anyone else had this thought about the Cotton samplers ?

By all means, if you have any picutures of Cotton samplers, please post them. Even if they aren't GEC, it would be nice to see actual pictures of this pattern from different makers too.

This Krack-A-Jack is a GEC SFO for Dorton's Ole Jack line.

I've been thinking about one for a folding skinner. The perfect shape.
Love that Krack a Jack Old Hunter. The one thing that has stopped me has been the brass bolsters, yours is perfect.

Best regards

Robin

Oh man....

I REALLY like that. VERY cool. Beautiful bone, and while I'm not big on blade etches, it looks great on yours
I would snag one of those in a heartbeat...

Hope I don't take away from your thread but does anyone know if Case ever made a Cotton Sampler? Is the Loom Fixer basically a Cotton Sampler? I know the blade shapes don't look anything alike.

I have owned several Cotton Samplers over the years. Northwoods, when they were made in Gladstone MI. had one and I still have it although I don't carry it. The blade on it is more angular than the GEC Ole Jack line blade however. Here's a shot of it, Queen also made a few back a couple years with this same blade style. I wish GEC would make one in this blade style.

No problem. I know nothing about this pattern, so I'm interested in furthering my knowledge, whether it's GEC or other companies....
Case did make a cotton sampler with a blade very similar to the GEC blade. The Loom Fixer is a totally different knife, but I don't know anything about those either :D
