I recently bought a new GEC SFO with a defect from a GEC distributor . Does the Distributor bear any responsibility for a swap if they have the knife in stock, or do I need to contact GEC for a resolution?

Haven't got a reply back from the distributor yet, but would like know what the common practice is. It seems when dealing with the big knife houses they will take returns for a swap.

Its sold out. Thought they might keep a couple back for problems like this...
OK, that is an unfortunate situation, and I feel for you. It sounds like you will have to contact GEC for warranty work.

Are we talking acrylic? Sometimes there are little imperfections or weirdnesses in the material. Could we see a pic maybe?

Flip phone so no pics.
Its acrylic. It is on both sides of a pin, so I 1st thought it was a crack but cant see it looking edgewise so I'm guessing its either a smooth, shiney mark on the down side of the cover, or smooth shiney mark on the brass liner.

It's all good, I'm just not set up for pics either so no big whoop.

It doesn't really sound to me like something GEC would think is a warranty issue unless it really uglies up the knife or affects function in some way. If you are just straight up unhappy with the knife, I would think your dealer would refund you.
I can figure easy enough which SFO it is, and I feel confident another member here somewhere would relieve you of your burden as well. ;)

ETA: I have not used GECs warranty service, so I really don't know what they may or may not do.

I have used the GEC warranty and service many times. I am still not 100% sure I understand what is wrong with the knife, but being that it sounds like an aesthetic issue with the cover I doubt they'd "fix" it for free. The time to ask is DEFINITELY now though, as if you wait till the run is over it'll take much longer to fix.

Most flip phones even have cameras. If I got my phone number to you, could you send a picture? I'm really interested.
