Just received a GEC EZ Open #25 with sheepsfoot blade and zebra wood scales and I am very impressed! I have been enjoying my other #25 in Mexican bocote w/ wharncliffe blade and when I saw these with zebra wood scales and acorn shield I could not resist another.

The EZ-open feature is quite nice. Considerably easier/faster to open than my other #25 with no cut-out. Easy to pinch open.

Fit and finish is very nice. The top scale pin is a little recessed but no big deal at all. Blade is centered, acorn shield looks awesome, wood is nice, everything is smooth and polished, bolsters are shiny, liners look good... Awesome! I like the GEC etching on the blade too. Cyclops Steel Works on the other side tang stamp.

Walk and talk very similar to my other #25 - pretty much perfect.

Blade grind is very good, and here is a big difference compared to my other one: this one is very sharp right out of the tube! I sharpened my other one upon receiving it, but this one is very usable right away. When it is time to sharpen I will probably narrow the edge angle as I usually do, but this edge is very good. I was very happy to be able to take the knife right out of the tube and put it in my pocket immediately. It cleanly cut some paper/envelope and plastic wrap no problem.

My other #25 has a little side-to-side play when closed; this one is tight (although it could develop in the future - no big deal at all, though).

Time will tell how I like the 440C of this one compared to that awesome 1095. I think it will be hard to beat that 1095, though...

All things considered this is an awesome knife. A big thank-you to GEC and Greg at TSA.

I will take some pictures of this one and my bocote version some time for comparison. These little #25s, especially in the wharnie/sheepsfoot configuration are some very nice small but sturdy workers. Very handy little knives.

Ditto! I have some hankering for GEC's. I saw some at a table at the Pasadena CA show in March. I was low on funds, otherwise would have sprung for one or two that made me go ooooh and ahhhh alot.

I really like that Tidioute.
I'm going to be in a lot of trouble if I have to drive through Titusville.

Very nice knives indeed. I was wondering how long it would be before you posted pictures. I have a #25 Tidioute just like yours except it has Tortoise Shell Acrylic handles.

The acorn shield on that is a nice touch. I don't get why they either stained or dyed the zebrawood so dark though. What's the point of getting exotic wood with distinct grain lines and then obscuring them with dye? Just start out with wenge or ebony and be done with it. It seems strange to me since GEC does such a nice job with their bocote scales. I do really like that Tidioute you have there. It looks like a handy little wharnie.
