Good day.

I just ordered a GEC Farm & Field Bull Nose in Black,(couldn't find the orange) and really like the few reviews I read and the pics I have seen but to the people who actually own one, whats your thoughts? Did you like it when you bought it and maybe not so much now? did you like it better than a Case Sodbuster? ii have several Sodbusters and do like them a lot but really wanted to try one of these GEC knives out so I started with this one.
do they come in a tube like the other GECs?

thanks in advance.

Manufacturer: Great Eastern Cutlery

Model: GEC-715113-BD

You could have gotten an orange one at "collectorknives.net".

There are a ton of threads on these Bull Nose knives. Everybody has their favorites - brand to brand, blade steel to blade steel, cover material to cover material, etc..

Enjoy your knife and be sure to post pictures of it.

Expect an outstanding, solid working knife. My micarta Bull Nose has gotten a lot of pocket time in the last couple weeks, and does everything I want it to. It's tough and no-nonsense, and I love that I don't feel like I need to "baby" it at all.

thanks for the reply, did you make the bail or can you buy one for the Bull Nose?

The Bull Nose to me is the BEST WORK traditional I own:thumbup:

I find the handle perfect for extended use.

I like the Red Neck Farm Tool but really lean towards the Micarta covers:thumbup:

The 01 Steel is execelant , Hold and takes a wicked edge. Got mine 1 1/2 years ago and carried every day since . Best EDC i've ever carried.

I have one in the Natural Micarta cover and it's a workhorse of a knife. Carrying it and using it for everything from cutting to just the other day I was shaving off some patches of mold that accumulated on my post and rail fence. Feels good in the hand and good all around product.

I have one in natural micarta and love it I think it's a great work knife, very comfortable in hand not too heavy in pocket. I have a case sodbuster and was disappointed in the f&f, sharpness, and blade play.

Expect an excellent knife with good edge holding from its O1 steel and nice and fit and finish, for a very fair price! I have my green micarta version in my pocket right now:thumbup:

The GEC Farm and Field Bull Nose knives I own ( black, orange, green micarta, canvas micarta) have all been excellent when compared to the Case Sod Busters and the Queen Country Cousins. Blades have been centered with zero blade play, no proud back springs, good "walk & talk. Fit and finish has been excellent. Handles are slightly larger than the Case Sod Buster Jr. and the Queen Country Cousin which fits my large hands very well. It carries well in the pocket and is an easy traditional EDC to carry all the time. You will like it!:)

The GEC costs twice as much as a Case, but it's definitely twice the knife, if not more. It's a big bigger than the Sodbuster Jr, but not nearly as large as the large Sodbuster. Big enough to fill the hand, but not so huge that you won't feel like you won't want to carry it. Fit and finish are way better. The O-1 tool steel is a huge improvement over the soft CV or Tru-sharp that Case offers. And your preferences may differ, but the half-stop on the GEC adds a level of refinement (and safety) that the Case doesn't have.

I'd rather have 1 GEC Bull Nose than 2 (or 3 or 4) Case Sodbuster Jr's.

I had one of the "Redneck" versions, awful orange handles and all. I (or actually, my dog) found the thing while walking across a parking lot. As found, it had a minor chip in the blade. Some time spent clearing brush resulted in another--larger--chip, so I sent it to roam on the prairie.

It might have been OK for many other purposes, but I think the blade was too hard for a general-purpose working tool around the farm. And it was ugly. I replaced it with a Case XX sodbuster (not Jr.) in basic black. I'm not a Case fan, but it is better-suited to my purposes.
