GEC grizzly bone or ebony wood?

Hello all,

I am considering GEC's #45 lumberjack (single blade), and am torn between the grizzly bone and the ebony wood. Although I am aware that this decision might just come down to personal taste, I wouldn't mind hearing from those who have handled or own/owned one (or both) of these. A secondary concern is the lack of a lock; even though the spring looks massive and strong on the 45, a locking mechanism is something that I am both accustom to (modern folders), and think is a generally good idea. Because of this I have been eyeing a GEC #23 w/ a liner lock. I prefer the stouter blade of the 45, but the 23 is quite appealing too. Any thoughts on this matter are also welcomed!

Thanks...

In that pattern, I would have to say that Ebony seems to belong better, as it nicely sets the rivets off, imho. As for lock vs. no lock, if I am using the knife with the appropriate attention, a lock is redundant.

The difference in size between the 45 and the 23 is significant. Check out YouTube for tsaknives channel, Greg has a review of them I think. The 45 seems an unlikely size for plausible carry. I'd love to hear feedback from someone who does use one....

And incidentally, I'd go for ebony.

The spring on the 45 is VERY stout and although it doesnt lock I think there is little concern with it closing on you. In regards to the handle material...both of those are nice but I'm a fan of the 45 in Indian Paint Brush, that red is so vibrant. And as others have said the 23 and 45 are quite different patterns and feel very different in the hand.
