I don't own many traditional knives, neither do I have much knowledge of them. I am fairly good with my google skills, but for some reason, I cannot find this particular knife anywhere. I am not sure if GEC made this one as a special run, as I can find this knife with different handle materials but not this antique walnut jig bone. I think I scored this knife for a great deal from someone who may know less than myself about it. The only imperfection is very light surface scuffs as seen in the first pic, to the left of the squirrel, but its only seen in the right light.

1. Any information as to the rarity
2. What steel it is made of?
3. when it was made? (which I am guessing 2010, as the ones I have found in different handles are labeled H23312, referring to the last 2 digits as a production year?)
4. Is this a knife I should hang onto for a long while as a keepsake to hand down?
5. Is the WWP on the tube end for Wounded Warrior Project? very cool if so, I am a veteran myself!

I AM NOT ASKING FOR THE VALUE! not trying to break any rules here, I just want to know if it is a rare knife, and maybe some specs on the steel.

There are a couple in bocate and walnut with the same serial number, listed with one of the dealers. The steel is 1095.

If you go to the GEC website there are year lists giving production numbers.

Best regards

Robin

This from the GEC 2010 Production Totals.
#H23310
Exotic Mexican Bocote Wood 5 pcs. no serial numbers
Antique Walnut Jig Bone 50 pcs. no serial numbers
Burnt Stag 11 pcs. no serial numbers

Most likely 1095 Carbon Steel Blade.

I don't know about the "WWP". One GEC Distributor routinely auctions a knife, with the proceeds donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. I have no idea if this is one of those knives.

Awesome info guys, I appreciate it! Sounds like it might be collectible if only 50 were made...

I saw that distributors site that does the Wounded Warrior sales, must be where this one came from!

Thanks again

Technically...all GEC knives are "Rare" they dont make many of any one pattern/handle material knife. Use the heck out of that thing!

My Geppetto Whittler in Ebony...only 25 made. Most of the models are 1 of 50 if serialized. Not rare for a GEC.

I see, I thought that might be the case, that they just worked in small batches and change things like scales and such. I probably won't use it though, it doesn't have a purpose for me, I have so many other knives that fit my needs for now. This will just sit well oiled in the safe until I decide to do something with it, if ever.
