GEC jack or calf roper?

Hey guys. I recently got my bonus at work, which left me with a few extra bucks to spend. I don't own any knives from GEC yet, so I thought I should give them a shot. I've narrowed it down to the calf roper in ebony wood, or the jack in black micarta. They are both the same size, and either one you do just fine for an everyday knife, and I don't need any certain number of blades. This makes it a little hard to decide on which. Does anyone have both of these? If so, which do you prefer? Also, is the calf roper any thicker than the jack? Thanks.

I have owned both the #66 Jack and the Calf Roper. I liked the Calf Roper better because I liked the sheepsfoot and double hip spey blades better than the pen blade on the Jack. I am also a Stockman fan so I might be a little biased.

I don't have the knives anymore so I cannot comment on the thickness.

#66 calfy all the way
came sharper (more recent) than the 66 jack and the 3 blades are awesome, have 2 and love both
the small pen is just a backup, not really usable (came DULL) as it's narrow and short, so to me go the stockman way!

price should be very similar too

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yeah Maxx, everything about them seems really similar. I guess it just comes down to blade preference. I've always had a thing for the stockman pattern, but in the last year or so I've really taken to the peanut, and the GEC jack looks like a peanut on steroids...lol.

Depends. I sort of wish I'd got the CR (Northfield version in Choffee Bone) but I took the Tidioute Jack in Orange Jig.

Snap, finish really excellent onthis Tidioute, find the Pen blade fine and I tend to prefer Jack knives, but somehow I've never taken to it. Mainly due to aesthetics, I think if I'd been able to get a Northfield version in Rotten Banana bone or Pumpkin Patch acrylic I would feel differently. They have Longpull and slanted/pinched bolsters, makes all the difference to the knife's appearance in my view. Stockman could be a bit bulky or hands full of blades feel too it due to short size, however, whichever you choose it will NOT disappoint from a build quality perspective, that's for sure!

I think you'll be happy either way. I use the jack myself because the pen blade works for me and it is unnoticeable when using the main blade. My only gripe with the stockman is the sheepsfoot sticks up enough to be noticeable. I think it just comes down to preference.

Max, The black micarta #66 jack is newer than the other 66s and should be just as sharp as the calf ropers.
