At the rate the prices are going up on these just in the last few weeks online, they will be rivaling the gas price increases this month. The supposedly cheaper acrylics etc. are already going for the same pricing as the bone.

You can still get some excellent deals on GECs if you look around.

As to acrylic being a petroleum product, that's true but GEC and other companies have a ton of it laying around that they purchased/made when prices were low.

Just because you have a few barrels of oil sitting around that you bought when prices are low doesn't mean you aren't going to raise the prices at the pump... I haven't checked recently but I assume cost of Micarta is rising too?

Oh, I know that. It's what makes pigs fly. There isn't enough acrylic on any knife to mke a big price difference. GEC like others has to make a buck but there are still some great deals out there -- acrylic included.

Fuel cost rise impacts on everything in a business: deliveries, raw materials, distribution rather than just the cost of acrylics itself. I can't see any of it coming down , so buy now to avoid disappointment:D:cool:

Just grabbing up a couple pricing list...

2009 128109 Tidioute Toothpick - Frontier Bone ($72.39) Acrylic ($72.25)

2012 661312 Tidioute Calf Roper - Jigged Bone ($89.45) Acrylic ($90.67)

So, for the limited number produced in 2012 they are a little higher. But I don't think it is enough to force most people away. And Oil averaged $53barrel in 2009, thus if acrylics were following oil we would not be happy at all.

Also, woods and acrylics look like they would be a little cheaper than jigged bone. But it is easier to jig bone than to get a perfectly smooth finish on the acrylic or wood handles when finishing. Thus, they have always been fairly close in price.

Just for giggles, 2010 #260210 Tidioute Jigged Bone ($77.09) -vs- 2012 #261212 Tidioute Jigged Bone ($78.38). So about a 1% year over year increase on essentially (wharnie -vs- clip) the same knife.
