GEC Lockback Scout

Not sure if these are what you mean by "real world" but here are a few pics of mine:

Stu that's a real beauty. Thanks for sharing the pics.

How solid does the lock feel?

Mine has just a bit of play when locked (and from what I read anyway, that is the norm). Not enough to give any concern at all, but it's there if you look for it.
I would still call it a solid lock, just not "perfect".

Great knife and locks up tighter than a drum. I've detected no blade play in this knife.

That blue lockback is a real looker Stu!!!

That Burnt Orange is really nice. It has a very mellow look to it. Subtle but a standout at the same time. That's a Northfield and of course has very nice blade swedges. The ringed bolster is a plus too.:)

I had one just like it but a local rancher that lets me hunt deer on his property saw it and really liked it. I didn't say anything but left it in the glove compartment of his truck. A few weeks later we were cutting alphalfa bale strings and feeding some stock and he was using it. He gave me a firm hand-shake when I left.

Yep, these GEC lock backs are some really nice knives.

Does anyone have a 'real world' pic/s of this knife I could look at please?

TIA

You asked specifically about GEC Scout Lockbacks but GEC also makes a nice Pioneer Linerlock. I don't want to walk on your thread without asking but if you'd like, I can put up a picture of one of the GEC Pioneer Linerlocks I have so that you can compare it with the linerlocks above to see which you might like best.

Post away! The more pics the better. I was specifically interesting in the spear point version but its always interesting to see what's out there!

does the linerlock have a spring? never handled any from GEC, only slips and lockback
just curious if it is spring backed linerlock or "plain" linerlock

I'd have to say it's not a spring type linerlock.

One thing to note is that the GEC linerlock knife's pull is very stiff (6 on a scale of 1 to 10) and it has half-stops. When you close this knife, you need to pay attention to make sure you get your thumb/finger out of the way before the blade snaps shut once past the half-stop. It's not dangerous -- you just have to pay attention.

The GEC lockback on the other hand has a nice easy pull (3 on a scale of 1 to 10) with no half-stops. The blade closes with moderate snap -- no danger to the digits.

Thanks, Ed. I did not know the linerlock had half-stops. That kind of tempers my enthusiasm for the pattern. I had been thinking about one, but generally do not like GEC's half-stops.

Well, in the case of these GEC #73 Linerlocks, the half-stops kind of act like the safety on a rifle. It gives you a chance to get your thumb out of the way before the blade goes past the halfway point and slams shut on your thumb.

i've had my eye on these for awhile now and i think this thread finally made me get one. it's a toss up between the blue bone and the ebony, but i'll get that sorted out soon enough.

my question is does the knife have carbon back springs like most gecs or is it ss? and did they fix the blade play issue on the new scout model?

Not a real world pic, but I don't remember seeing any Great Eastern versions in this pattern, until today.
440C Stainless steel (if you are into that kind of thing), and an interesting new handle treatment.
Depending on the price I might have to get a closer look.
