stag wharnie--frontier bone lockback--ebony wharnie
i've never been disappointed with gec stag & i can never seem to get enough of it. i really like the action on the wharnies & have to mention the polish on the swedges is fantastic. the earlier released lockback gives members an idea how the 2 patterns compare. the wharnies are northfields with fancy bolsters. i hope the beautiful bone is somewhat clear in this poor pic.

Dennis, That stag handle is nice! I have my stag handled Queen Mountain Man in 1095 on my belt right now. Something nice about the feel of stag in your hand.John

Great looking knives - I have been thinking of getting one. How is the lockup? The mention of the Queen Mountain Man reminded me of some of the worst blade play problems I have ever experienced in knives I have owned.

BEAUTIFUL :D I have the stag Wharnie but your ebony pic has me

thinking  Thanks for the nice photo.

i had heard there were some shaky blades on the mt. man but of the 6 i bought for myself & friends, all were really tight.t think having a really great distributor in your corner helps a ton. my 7 or so gec lockers are all super smooth & tight.

If they put out the spear point lockbacks in frontier bone or ebony I feel I'm going to have an especially hard time laying off.

Thank you Dennis for posting this photo...I was just talking to another forum member about me loking for a single bladed Wharncliffe, I just dont know, and Im going to look reeeeeal hard before I buy this one.
So this has given me a good insight into the awesome GEC wharnies

gec 440 has good heattreat but the polish is like an orange peel. the 440 actually outcut the gec 1095 on sisal in knarfengs tests however it was'nt by a wide margin.

I have a GEC ez open barlow in 440 and I really like it. I won't buy a knife that will discolor. It just looks wrong to me.

Dennis, I heard the same thing about Mountain Mans being loose, but the one I got has no play in the blade at all. John

Hey Dennis, that frontier bone is great looking. The stag is also outstanding, but I guess I just haven't warmed to the wharnie blade yet.

One thing I like about the GEC lockbacks is that they are so smooth and easy to open as compared to some of the other GEC's I've handled.

Good stuff...
