Here it is.

What, if any, is the meaning of the three Ps in a circle on some GEC blades?

The first GEC knife I bought had these on the blade and I never thought a thing about it. So I darkened the blade and started using it. It is a Ben Hogan in jigged cherry wood and I have never seen another for sale on line, or anywhere else for that matter. O well, it's not prestine anymore so I use it. Yesterday it butchered two white tailed deer. It's a great knife and I do love it.

Rick...........Bingo, right on.....plus it only appears on the Tidioute brand of Great Eastern Cutlery

Thanks, Jim! I did not know it was only on the Tidioutes. Is this because the Tidioute brand is always the first brand released when a new pattern comes out?

Maybe.......and it goes towards one more element of GEC collecting with the Tidioute label......the "PPP" etch began appearing on early 2010 knives.

So this marking would indicate a (preproduction) release? I hope so, because I fully intend to buy another.

It's not pre-production, just the first batch of knives made from a new pattern. I forget what the exact number is, but I'm sure somebody here knows how many. Not really a big deal unless you're trying to collect all of them.

The Ben Hogan pattern sure appeals to my eye!

Especially with a long pull!

Originally if was going to be the first 250 knives of a new pattern. But they really wanted it to be Tidioute only and some runs didn't get that high. So I think the expectation should be that up to the first 250 Tidioute's of a new pattern will have the mark. And it is generally a new frame, not variations of the same frame.
