used my red buffalo liner lock with 1095 carbon steel this weekend on 2 whitetails i had rebeveled it to acute angle & put razor edge on it. was curious to see if this fine edge would handle rib bones without edge turning. ripped thru 2 rib cages & skinned one . cleaned blade & stropped on palm ;the knife shaved leg hair easiley . i've used plenty of custom straight blades that did'nt go thru bone any easier. gecs are a little pricey but i.m.o. they are worth the money.so now the patina starts on a fine carbon blade.

Awesome! I just ordered my first GEC knife, the #23 Pioneer Trapper with Bocote handles. Nice to hear that it can handle real hard work.

How are the edge angles out of the box?

I have a #23 liner lock in Pumpkin bone, and it is definitely a hard use folder. It is a great working knife.

Sounds to me like they know what they are doing. Bone is not the easiest thing on an edge....

Leg hair ? I never thought about doing that. Sure would be better than havin a smooth forearm. :D

I'm not sure a smooth leg is any better!:D

The 23 is one of my favorites. Maybe I can kill me deer this week and see if mine will work as well.

I'm not surprised actually, it's BIG STURDY knife and like all GEC's built tough!

gec factory edge is sharp but it's a shallow bevel . it wo'nt last long before a new bevel is needed.on my users i do this immediately so i wo'nt have to do it next 2 wks. or a month down the road.thankfully i bought a professional machine with assessories to hold large & small blades yrs. ago.this rig has adjustments for different angle bevels. hate to have to reprofile bevels even on diamond hones. some of my blades are d2 & s30 & hand work would be exhausting. sorry to mention it but this rig is no longer produced.
