Trying to decide between the two.
Next knife is in all likelihood going to be a traditional slipjoint.

GEC #25 or Case's Tony Bose Swayback Jack.

Which do you prefer, and why?

Thanks,
-nate

I own both and in all honesty you could not go wrong with either, if you are looking for a smaller size knife to chunk in your pocket.

I lean towards the swayback due to it's fit and finish smother action and size for office carry in slacks.

Tough call but I find the Swayback as perhaps the classiest looking knife available.

I have both. The Swayback is my favorite and the GEC is second favorite. If I had to choose it would be the Case with out a doubt.

Reasons being:You get two useful blades but they're close to the same size, fit and finish is close to flawless, nicer looking IMO,good ergos and it's sanctioned and designed by the man himself T.Bose.

The GEC#25 feels a little more solid though.

Of the two, easily the Case Bose

But the comparator for the GEC might better be the Queen Burke barlow :)

You like your knives sharp...? If that's the case, buy the Case. Heck, Case/Bose collaborations are the way to go, hands down.

I, too, would choose the Case without hesitation, but wish GEC woul make something along the same lines...

Hi,

I'll say the #25. I've got a 2 blade Barlow. I like the size and the general solid feel of it. It's no shrinking violet in the face of hard use. I like the heavy duty clip point master blade and the small, thin pen blade. It gives me two good choices to use.

And while the Swayback is deservedly praised for it's fit and finish by everyone, I'm not so sure I'd find the Swayback frame comfortable in my hand. Nor would I be as willing to work it as hard. Somehow it seems more delicate and fragile to me.

I don't know, six of one, half a dozen of another? Either way I don't think you can't go wrong no matter which you choose.

I agree with you. I'd pick the GEC #25, because it seems to be a more sturdy knife. I'm also partial to clip blades.

I own and EDC both knives, but if I had to choose, I'd keep the GEC.

I'm assuming you're talking about the Case SBJ with CV blades, right? That is a tough call.

The Case is a little bigger, but slimmer & lighter (If that makes sense). However, the GEC's a little stouter & can be had with a Sheepsfoot/Wharncliffe blade (Usually with a small Clip blade instead of Pen blade, though).

I'm not sure the Case's F&F is better than the GEC's, either. I also think GEC's 1095 is better (In edge holding) than Case's CV steel & if it's available in GEC's 440C, I think theirs is better than Case's Tru-Sharp, too (Again, in edge holding).

I'd say get both. Life's too short to pick just one & they are different knives. I love the GEC Barlow in frontier bone.

I really like my Swayback as it's just plain classic. I reckon you can't go wrong with the GEC though and if you need to bean someone upside the head from 10 feet then the 25 is your knife! :D

I like them both but, The Sway Back Jack is a awesome knife and I have 3 of
them and I carry one of them everyday no matter what else I'm carrying
that day !!

I really really like the SWJ. I hope to own one myself someday. The lines just look so good to me. I'm not sure what to tell you, except that it appeals to me aesthetically.
