I wonder if anyone here has a carbon steel GEC Muskrat

It is the one built on the 4 1/8" even-ender frame that I am interested in - not the little #66 pattern Mink Skinner.

I really like the look on this as a good edc, and am seriously thinking about getting one

Problem is that Muskrats usually have thin, flexible blades: which is not something I am looking for in this one.

If an owner could make a remark about the stoutness of the blades, I'd be very grateful :)

I don't have a #53 Muskrat but I believe its the same 3" clip blades used in the #53 Cubans and Furtakers.

.. thanks 2Dead .. and what are the clip blades like on the Cubans and Furtakers? :)

You won't find them flexing very much. They have pretty thick spines but taper almost right to the edge. They have full flat grinds and slice/cut great. Here are some comparison pics I took between my #53 Furtaker and a Vic Farmer. You can see how thick the blades are on both. I don't find Vic's blade to flex very much either.

This is my yellow rose muskrat furtaker on the 4-1/8" equal end frame.

It's a stout knife, very little if any flex. Plus it's more versatile with the secondary Wharncliffe blade.

the gec musk is plenty heavy duty for light camp, will do a deer if you take your time. although i've skinned a coupal of squirrels with my musk furtaker i believe the more slender bladed musks like camillus & old cold steel are better for squirrels. plenty of blade on the gec musk to handle fish gutting & mine whittles wood great. for looks the regular stag or bone straight gec musks are fantastic traditionals.--pics in a little while.---dennis

stag, yellow rose fur musk, cold steel, horsecut walnut, &red stag fur musk.all carbon steel except 440 red stag, notice the 4&1/8 frame of the gecs are more heavy duty than the cold steel. however the cold steel would probably do squirrels faster.---dennis

Thanks for all that detail Dennis.

I have a few fishing muskies and am after something rather bigger and heavier. So, it looks like I go ahead :)
