I'd like a folder in a more traditional design but find myself being pretty picky with what I like in the traditional category. I really like the lines of the GEC Mustang #74 but have not found any in my price range ($200 max). Can anyone give some examples that are similar? Love ironwood and jigged bone.

Thanks in advance. Much appreciated.

74s come up for sale fairly regularly try looking on some of the facebook groups. I usually see them go for 160 for a user or 185-200 for a NIT one. But if you're looking for similarly sized one bladed knives there are a few from case that fit the description.

The GEC #73s are very similar to the #74.
Keep your eye out for both on the secondary market.
You could also search for Remington (and other brands) Bullet Trapper knives, similar to the GEC #73

If you are willing to venture into the 'modern traditional' category, the lionsteel Bolus and Otnat knives at CK are fairly 74 like.

Unfortunately something similar won't satisfy the desire. You will end up spending more on things that are similar than you will getting the one you really want.
I think you are right. I will defiantly try to see if I can get a hold of one and I know how some good suggestions on how to do that.
Thank you.

If you don’t mind foreign knives you could try Brother (a company) out of China, which has a trapper pattern; or the French regional pattern Saint-Bernard, which has a similar shape to the #74. Slightly more curvy, but if similar shape is the Le Thiers French regional pattern. If you go French I’d recommend Chambriard as a solid maker.

you should post in the "wanted to buy" forum here.... I imagine you will get some responses, as the 74 has been just recently made, and there are quite a few of them around.

That is encouraging! I'm looking for an Ironwood, but the #74 are clearly in circulation.
