Got this in the mail today. I expected it to be darker. But, what a beauty. It's reddish brown, almost Brazilean Rosewood. Nice grain structure and both handles match as close to perfect as I've seen. If CSC would use this Cocobolo for the BF Shadow, I think it would make a real looker.

Another thing I didn't really notice with the Northfield, besides the threaded bolster and cloud shield, was the nice swedge on the the blade. TheTidioute has more of a deburred rolled swedge, whereas the Northfield has a symmetrically cut swedge. Very nicely done, I might add. I also got a nice little "73 Scout" button, which I forgot to put in the photo. (A long day at work, y'all know how that goes.) Overall, I'm very pleased with this one.

Excellent colour and grain on that one, you must be pleased. But, that's the thing about wood, immense variations, you drew a lucky one there!

You're right there, Will. Most of the cocobolo wood knives I saw in pics, were much darker. I was really surprised by this one. Pleasantly surprised.

That's a nice knife. Take a look at GEC's site and you'll see that the shade of this cocobolo run goes from very light to very dark - almost black. The grain of the covers on your pictured knife is well defined. Once again, very nice.

Very nice!!:) I have one on order too, I can't wait till it gets here!!! I'm really excited about this run if 73's, I've been wanting one for quite a while.

Very very nice example you've got there. That cocobolo is a very close cousin to Brazilian Rosewood. As far as the swedge, what you're seeing is a "cut swedge" versus a "drawn swedge."

Thanks guys. And Phil, drawn works for me. But, if each blade is stamped individually, how are they drawn? What process does that?

I was on the fence between the Cocobolo and the Osage Orange. That is until I saw this one and had to have it. A little atypical of the species but I heard it calling.

Nice looking Cocobolo on that run of slipjoint 73's. Mine is OK, they all look nice enough. .

the contrast and gloss really make the wood stand out. I only have one wood gec atm but cocobolo is a real looker. Great 73

Another GEC that came scratched May 28,2015 GEC 735115 Northfield Horsecut..Plus the pullback is way too difficult unless you had pliers. What can I say this one must be sent back.GEC Scout2.jpgGEC Scout4.jpg
However, still a big fan of GEC and the work they perform and all of their GEC products, just not this one. Things happen!

If it wasn't for the extra strong pull, I'd bite for one with this wood grain pattern in a heartbeat. Very nice.

Looks like there quite a few of these Cocobolos that had some fine color and grain. Bob, the 73's definitely have heavy pulls. These single blade Scouts are just a little easier than my double blade Trapper style.

The swedge isn't in the initial stamping. They do it afterwards, I assume using a belt grinder for both types.
