I've been looking for traditional slipjoints that can be opened with one hand and the #15 One-Armed Jack looks pretty promising. I'm just wondering if anyone has any actual experience with these, how effective that hook on the end of the blade works at catching the lip of a pocket to open the knife up. I'm also wondering how the spring tension on these are, seems like they might be a bit weak to allow for the one handed opening.

Tension is no different from others -- the hook is nice and pointy and everything works very well. Love the couple I have.

As someone who can only use 1 arm/hand this is right in my lane. I have one in the light ebony and it works great opening with just one hand. Pull is about the same as my other #15 GEC knives. Upper hook catches pocket edges or belt loops very well for opening. Just remember there is a half-stop so be ready for it to pop into place. Grip it too loose and it might pop out of your hand. Be warned that the pointy hook that works so well at catching stuff to open can also catch you in your pocket. Highly recommend carrying it in a pocket slip of some sort.

Excellent to hear, I've always been interested in trying one of these out. Might have to be my next purchase. A pocket slip is a good idea, maybe even one of those pocket sheaths with the clip on them.

Interesting knife but I imagine it could be a bit of a Ripper too..:D More evidence of the 15's versatility as well.

Noticed that Böker Germany do one in carbon with a secondary Pen blade, odd but worthwhile.

Thanks, Will

I had this one:

It was difficult for me to catch it to open it, honestly it seemed a bit gimmicky to me. The end was also kind of pointy, as mentioned above. I would rate the pull on my example to be about a 5+, very much in line with my other GEC knives. The concept is interesting, but I think there are better options out there if you are looking for a one hand opening knife.

GEC did some with secondary pen blades in both Boy's Knife & Barlow configuration. Case did one, but the upper point is very rounded. More pocket friendly, but slips off stuff more in trying to use it as an opener. There is also a CSC version that I saw for sale on A.G. Russell's site. It is under Union Cutlery and has blue jigged bone.
