Im a Jack fan......and im interested in getting my first GEC. Both the Outlaw and American Jack catch my eye. Looking at the Buffalo horn Outlaw or the African Wood American Jack.

Outside of doing the only sensible thing, and just buying both..........I can only pick one for the time being.

So GEC fans..........thoughts, comparisons, preferences?

As always pictures are welcome.

outlaw!
just cause...Maybe kevin will provide a few of his outstanding pics to help sway you :p

American Jack in AB. I love AB, a fascinating wood and very durable from all reports I've seen on it.

In general, I prefer African Blackwood to Buffalo Horn, but on the other hand am a big fan of the Outlaw pattern. That's probably not much help to you, but I will attach a picture of my Outlaw Jack for reference (even though it's scaled in copperhead jigged bone). Best of luck. I don't think you could go wrong with either option.

I love the 76 Outlaw Jack pattern! I have one with bocote wood scales and a yellow rose version. But I'm not a huge fan of the buffalo horn just because it kind of feels like plastic to me and it seems to be a little more prone to shrink and move than most of the other materials like the woods and bones. Another thing to keep in mind with the American Jack is I've read multiple people reporting a very stout pull on the blades so keep that in mind as that can be a negative but some people prefer it just throwing that out there.

not liking what you said about buffalo horn.......may have to consider other scale options.

The American Jack is definitely a couple points higher on the "pull" scale. Really a bit tighter than it needed to be, but there are those that love that about them.

Check out the #47 Viper pattern. I just bought one and it has one warncliff blade and a lanyard hole which I like. It is the same 3 3/4" closed length as the American Jack. My scale preference is bone and mine is the Sienna jigged version. You can't go wrong with a GEC pocket knife. Good luck.

I do really like the Outlaw pattern. Mine is bone, however there are a number of good scale options. That Yellow Rose Outlaw above is very nice!

I have had both, but did not keep the Outlaw. For my hand, they put the pivot at the wrong end, ergonomically. Using either blade, the hump in the handle hits me at the wrong place and just didn't feel right. The American Jack feels great in any position, and the primitive bone I got is a looker as well.

That bone is gorgeous for sure!

I blame Kevin for wooing me to the Outlaw due his pictures

Haha! That is a beauty, Paul!

Had mine along today. Love this knife!

Not only does it perform and have a really sweet walk and talk but it just reminds me of a nice old fashioned jackknife.

:)

Its the closest I could find to my grandpa's old case knife he gave me.
