The #892309 Executive Whittler has a main blade identical to that on the just-released #890310 Executive Whittler.

The thrid digit in the model number indicates blade style, "2" being standard spear and "0" being wharncliffe.

I have both these knives and the blades look identical to me. So, why was the prior one given that "2" (spear) designation when it's really a wharncliffe?

Because the first short run of #89s--the Tidioute "Melon Whittler"--had a spear blade, and for whatever reason, they retained the '2' throughout the first run, even though they switched to a Wharncliffe fairly early on.
