Tried using the search function, but couldn't find an answer.

Does the GEC Pemberton have half-stops?

Thanks - Pat.

Dangit.

As I have to open things one-handed, some half-stops can cause me to almost drop it.

does this mean that you open ordinary slipjoints one handed so long as they are not half-stops? I'd be interested to know your technique. I used to practice opening my SAK one handed, just for fun, it stopped being fun when I sliced into my thumb. :(

Do you have any other GEC knives OP? Reason I ask is I don't have a single one that I would be able to open with one hand. Most of them are kind of hard with 2 hands at times lol. I've heard the White Owl is easier than most of their other patterns and it doesn't have half stops so maybe that would be a better alternative for you?

No choice but to open them one-handed. I can't really use my left arm/hand much. V.A. Doc said I had probably about 20% use of it when I got out, and it's gotten a bit worse over the last 13 years from other surgeries.

I have 2 GEC knives:
Half Congress in stag
EZ-Open in jigged brown desert sand bone

I also have been carrying a Case serpentine jack lately.

How I open them varies. If I can get a good pinch grip on the blade, I'll hook the end of the knife opposite the pivot end under something , then pull up. Sometimes if the pull is easy enough I can hold the knife between my thumb and middle finger, while pulling up on the blade with my pointer fingernail in the nail nick. Not real quick, and most times I have to stop halfway to reposition things, but it works.

Half-stops can be scary at times for me. As I bring the blade up and it nears the half-stop, the blade will spring into position. That sudden movement can make the knife difficult to hang onto in the awkward way I open them.

I think Waynorth mentioned a one armed-man Barlow being a possibility in the future for the Sawyer Barlow line. Could be just the thing.

Thanks for the message Ed

Just got home from BLADE a while ago. While there I got to visit the GEC booth and handle a Pemberton. One-hand opening was not an issue at all for me. I'd of walked out of there with one, if it hadn't sold before I got back to it. Really liked the single blade version with the olive jigged bone. The 2-blade version with snakewood was really pretty, but the single blade was more to my liking.

Also took the opportunity to beg and plead for a GEC Scout knife. :D
