GEC PPP knives worth more?

I have a GEC 83 drop point and I am wondering if I should put it away because of the PPP marking being worth more money and pick up a Clip point model 83 instead.

What say the collectors? Does the PPP denoting the first run of a new model worth anything?

PPPs are worth more to some people, but selling one certainly won't allow you to retire!
Use it if it suits you, IMO!

Not really worth more unless it's one of those TC Barlows that some weird northerner has made by GEC...... ;)

Lol! I am keeping one PPP in mint but that's just me, I am sure the bulk of my knives my daughters will get to deal with someday regardless..not doing it for investment... just my personal narosiss :)

Guilty of this too Drew ;)

Use it :D I love the PPP etch in use as well and how it was designed~

Guns should be be shot, knives should cut stuff, motorcycles and hot rods should be driven. No matter what they are worth. Period.

Use it! I would never pay extra just for some letters on the blade, in fact I might pay less because I might have to buff them out if they irritate me lol.

Depends on your intentions when you bought it. If you bought it to be a collector's item, then of course, don't use it. If you bought it to use, then use it. There is more than one way to enjoy the knife hobby. Not all knives have to be users, unless you want to do that. Many people buy to collect and wouldn't think of using their prized collectibles, any more than a stamp collector would use a rare stamp to mail a letter.

Well said John. Do what makes you feel good. I always respect the guys/gals on here that beat up their expensive or rare knives. I find myself somewhere in the middle

I wouldn't expect it to be worth more simply because it did not cost more when it was new. Prototypes might be a different story.

On the other hand, some people might collect PPP knives specifically. In that case you might find a collector looking for that particular knife to enhance or even complete his/her collection. They might be willing to pay more.

I think the potential is there for an increase in value if the right buyer comes along. I just wouldn't count on it.

Given GECs small production runs, I think we're all set to be surprised at how some of these knives increase in value. Many will be users, increasing the value of pristine in tube examples.

The best advice has already been given. Enjoy your knives the way that makes YOU happy. I do a little using and a little saving. The best of both worlds for me at least.
