GEC question

So I know GEC is the umbrella company for the GEC, Tidioute, and Northfield lines of cutlery. And I know that the GEC line uses stainless. So what are the differences between the Tidioute and Northfield lines?

Cosmetic differences mainly. Both lines are 1095 Carbon Steel Blades. Northfield UN-X-LD generally have lined bolsters, long pull nail nicks and premium handle materials. Tidioute Cutlery are plain jane, if you can call any GEC "plain jane".

Northfield tend to have blades that are polished and swedged. Tidioute blades are "as ground" without swedge. Usually although exceptions are the norm with gec.

That is how i look at them...

There is nothing "economical" about working with 440C.
The processing is much more complicated and expensive than that of 1095

From what I've seen the GEC line has the same premium handle materials and mirror finishes as Northfield. It's definitely a step up from Tidioute.

Economy - stainless eh?!?

My own opinion is that the fit and finish of all the GEC products are of similar calibre. The differences are cosmetic. The Farm and Field line are basic and bombproof. The Tidioute are simple but elegant as are the stainless line. The Northfield's are just as functional but with a bit of bling.

They are all nice knives.
I prefer the long pulls and bolster work of the northfields.
