I'm going to get a GEC knife and I'm torn. I can't decide between a Pioneer and a Harness Jack. Could someone give me the blade lengths for the spear on the Harness Jack and the clip on the Pioneer? Thanks much.

HJ Spear ==> 3 1/4"
Pioneer Clip ==> 3 13/16"

From backspring to tip in opened position.

Hi Lion:

Just my 2 cents: I've already got the Pioneer, and I'm tempted by the Jack. The Pioneer is a great knife, but a bit of a tank for pocket carry without some sort of slipsheath to keep it from getting into an uncomfortable position. Part of the problem stems from the swell at the butt of the Pioneer (although it gives a great grip).

I'm also considering the Scout for the same reasons as the Jack.

GEC makes a very stout knife, so you'll have a workhorse no matter what you pick.

Best regards.

Thanks for the replies. berzerker, I already have a Queen MT Man, so I hear you on the tank thing. I'm very fond of it, so I thought a Pioneer would be a good place to start. Then I saw the Harness Jack.
Currently I normally carry a Scout and the MT Man. I like the extra blade length of the MT Man for food prep. Especially cutting up apples. That's fine in the winter, but can get a bit much when wearing lighter clothing in the summer; what with everything else I carry. The spear on the HJ is long enough that I shouldn't miss the MT Man (Thanks knifeswapper), but I will still have the goodness of an awl/reamer. Now I just have to figure out witch handle material.....
