I dunno if anyone else cares, but I'm VERY excited that this fall there will be single-blade 73s with the long pull. So far only a few LPs are out there, but all the double-bladed models. Ooh I can't wait for a 73LP in stag with the liner-lock, just delicious!

That is exciting news but I'm partial to the two blade versions. What a great and versitile pattern!

I'm a big fan of the GEC #73 pattern, I have six of them now. But I'm with Peter Parker, I prefer the 2 bladed to the single bladed versions. Long pulls are a good idea on the 73s- the springs can be a bit.... aggressive.

The springs do tend to be aggressive. It has been my experience that the long pulls, coupled with the swedge that tends to go along with them makes the blades harder and not easier to open. My experience is limited to two northfield two blade #73s with long pulls and swedges relative to two northfield two blade #73s with nail nicks and much more subdues swedges. The LPs start further back and offer less leverage than the nail nicks. Additionally, the aggressive swedge makes it harder to get a purchase on the blades to open them. I like the look of the LP and swedge, but functionally I could really do without them.

I'm with you, Hlee about the swedges. It's funny, GEC sure does like to put those swedges on the Northfields. Come to think of it, I think all of my Northfields have swedges- I'll have to check on that when I get home. Even on the "easy-opens"- which has the effect of making them decidedly less-easy to open. They sure do look good though. And they cut better, too.

I like the swedges. I haven't really noticed that they make the blades harder to open though.

Additionally- at least on my knives (again only two of each, both 2 blade)- the nail nicks are cut much more crisply than the long pulls, making it that much easier to open the blades with nail nicks.

That being said, the LP #73s that I have are worth it due to the stag scales alone.

I got the info from emailing GEC. I'm still excited b/c the two 73s I've had have not been tough to open, despite the complaints of some that theirs are pretty resistant. I took one of them and made my own long-pull, which made it easier to open still but it wasn't factory & you could tell. Still a great knife but I lost it somewhere! I was going to buy another and do the same but checked with GEC whether they would be coming out with a single-blade LP 73 and was told they would be Octoberish.
